I have a 1977 Ford F150 with a 351M, it did start before but I had sprayed it with engine degreaser while off to clean the gunk off the entire bay, since then it won't start. We have changed the carburetor, fuel pump, manifold, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, ignition Control module, starter Solenoid, new battery, starter, ignition switch, belts, and alternator. When trying to start it, everything moves and fuel is being pumped, but once you let go of the gas or let go of the key it instantly dies, i bought it to restore it as a daily driver but now it won't even start. Help me please!!!!
The column-mounted key cylinders of the '80s are known to not spring back fully to RUN from START when the mechanism gets dirty and/or the spring on the actual switch wears out. You might try jiggling your key in the lock cylinder (yes, I know it's in the dash) and see if you can find a place where it will stay running.
Next thing I would be looking at is 1) power to the ignition module, and 2) the module itself... those things have two power sources - one for START and the other for RUN.
If that engine degreasing included a water rinse be sure to let it thoroughly dry before attempting to start it. The moisture will cause the high voltage to go everywhere except to the plugs.
