well I got another problem moneypitt struck again.I go to start it turn the key nothing, notta, zilch go out under the hood run a jumper across the starter solonoid cranks over ,is this mean my starter solonoid is bad now? I also checked the solonoid fuse just for safe keeping its fine.So what now guys, this truck is burying me.
true i know its not the coil though bought a new accel coil ,and thing is it sit for a couple months but before it cranked right over started every time now nothing.
pull the 2 small wires off the face of the starter solinoid and see if you have voltage in one of them when the key is in the run posistion. if not it see if you have power to the wire on the module on the fender. if not trace it back to the key.
Ford Starter Soleniod Test with the Ignition Switch in the Start Positon.
Run the jumper wire from the positive "+" side of the battery terminal or post, to where the red with black stripe wire mounts to the starter solenoid terminal (the metal stud where the ignition switch gives positive "+" voltage to the solenoid) and check if the starter engages. Note: make sure your truck is in neutral position if a manual transmission.
Another quick test is pull the red with black stripe wire connector at the starter solenoid "this is the wire that supplies positive voltage when turn the ignition switch to the start postion" and with a voltage meter verify you are getting positive "+" voltage to that red with black stripe wire connector when you turn the ignition switch to the start position. If you got juice at this connector, then the starter solenoid is not engaging, THEN YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE STARTER SOLENOID.
If the connector at the starter solenoid does not have juice, then you will need to test the harness at the ignition switch.
thanks, i tested the starter solonoid, ignition module, coil everything was fine, it was in my neutral safety switch it cranks over easy now but I got no spark? well found out its the small harness that plugs into the distributor, coil, and to the main harness so im replacing that now.
I keep telling people to check the little wires where they hook-up to connectors for deteriorated connections.
These little wires Slightly Break Off without actually falling away from the part.
yea im jsut gonna repl;ace that part pf the harness it ;plugs right in so wont be to hard. when i got the truck the wiring from undewr the dash all the way to the headlights was hacked and messed up well i got another wiring harness same year and all as mine in great shape put it in, i got wires for under the hood, lights everything, now all i have left to replace is that small portion of the harness and it will have all been redone.
