Hot rod pickup
Alright guys, so I've settled on building my old 57 IH into a shop truck and need some advice.
Here's the layout I'm going with. A 57 IH S110 with a built 292 y block and 90s f150 front n rear suspensions. It'll be used for a lot of cruise night type driving, occasional strip visits, and hauling my Indian around. Plus the rare need to use as a real half ton pickup from time to time.
Now that I've laid that out I can ask my question. What kind of trans can I use in my truck that can handle the 3-400 rwhp and still take the 5400gvwr my trucks allowed? Now I'm stuck on a manual so no autos, also a 4 or 5 speed is acceptible.

Welcome! I'm interested in all types of builds! I've never owned an International Harvester, But I do like Y-Blocks, not sure what an S110 is.
Being Ford orphans of the 57-60"s we have folks here with totally stock trucks and fully modified trucks, about the only thing we all have in common is the body style that held on for four years. Some of us have had and some still have 292 Y-blocks. And some have owned modern F150's
Sorry for the slow Welcome, stick around and share your build with us. More details and pictures are always welcome.

Welcome to the land of mis-fit toys. An IH set up like you describe will fit right in. Frankly I don't remember the first post, I must have missed it completely.
There are some limits on what can go behind a Y-block., not too many tranys will match up. I suggest John Mummert's site on Y-blocks http://www.ford-y-block.com/. He has some information about modified bell housings that will accept a T-5. I believe they will handle the HP you want.
How did you come upon you IH? As others have said, we love pictures!
Merry Christmas

Thanks guys, sorry if that was a bit abrasive.
I love the y-block-forever site, great info there. I really would have no issue with building a bell housing for the trans I use. But the T-5 doesn't have a weight rating high enough for my truck. That's why I was considering the Muncie. It's close for power, I'd be pushing it a bit, but they were installed in big block chevelles which were heavy and torquey.
Yes transmissions have a weight rating. I have personal experience with exceeding that hahaha. And as you asked here's the only pic I have at the moment

Great looking starting point. There is a fella here that has one like that fixed up. He has a Chevy drive train under it with a 350 engine. The truck has nice curves.

I'm a ford guy and IH has been in the family since my mom learned to drive. And lastly the yblock has so much character, I really miss my dads 292 Galaxie.
Thanks for the pictures! The truck looks great like Walston said, I like the lines.
Thats going to make a cool parts fetcher, not to mention hauling your scooter, is that it in the back ground?

That sure is. I love that bike, put 19k on it in 8 months if that says anything. Infact I'm using my Indian for inspiration for this build. I'm going to rap the seat in similar leather and paint to match. Indian war bonnet on the doors for that shop truck look. I'm excited to get started, though finding a running 292 is proving harder then anticipated.
We are called "The Orphan Years Trucks" because the '56 & earlier & the '61 & later trucks are the most popular for Restoration, Modders & Hotrodders.
Our style of trucks set a design trend w/ the Styleside for over 50 years are, completely ignored by the majority of the Restoration, Modder & Hotrod crowd.
I'm more of a stickler as to what's posted, but the others have rarely had a problem w/ it.
