I read through the SD 6 door thread and just stumbled upon this one. Very cool build, all the way through. Loved the engine colors! I read about the IDI block failure you experience, and while that is a bummer, it seemed worse after knowing what it was in and how nice it looked. Still I am in awe of what you made, very impressive!

I appreciate it man. i love building stuff. kinda addicted.
the 87 is actually doing quite well with its temp engine,
i have taken it on 400 mile adventures, and i... i mean WE love it.
i still have a long list of things to do to it. but it don't ever stop.
its functional, and reliable while getting 22 MPG on the freeway @ 70 mph.
i couldn't ask for a better rig. i will continue to update when i do other mods.
which include, a rear winch bumper. a complete rack for the top for stuff,
and eventually another engine, one that will out due the last.
even tho that engine had a catastrophic failure, i still have all the parts ready to go into another block. minus the rockers, im using them.
and it never stops.
im really excited about my current build.
i cant wait... this year has been productive already.

I wholly understand this. And I hope you don't mind that it's likely I will "commandeer" a few of your ideas.

Two questions:
1) Where did you get your roller rockers and what ratio are you using?
2) What R&P ratio do you have? The 22 sounds enticing, though I imagine some of that is due to no turbulence with the longer roof and shell.

I have 3.55's with a S-42 ZF 5
when I tow with this thing, its under 5 tons, I don't have an issue at all
I got my roller rockers from Harland Sharpe.
with the roller rockers you will not notice any performance increase.
I did it to be nice to my valve guides.
expensive, yes, but I had to have them.
I forgot to throw you a link to the new build.
this ones gonna be kinda crazy.

That is the exact same reason I want rollers, not for a performance boost but to add longevity to the engine and parts. The plan is to build towards endurance and hope to add a performance boost that doesn't counteract the longevity. And thanks for the answer, I am leaning towards 3.73's to help with freeway without giving to much up in payload capacity.

not 1 issue. I have been keeping an ear on them, and at 1/2 turn preload on the lifters, they don't make a sound.
over 2000 miles so far

That's good to know. HS makes a good product from what I have seen. Think they have freed up any power at all due to less parasitic drag?

I figured as much. Just was curious if there was any seat of the pants feeling, even if it was ever so slight... I know the gains are usually up top on a gasser though.
