Battery Drain

I have a problem with battery drain with my 2013 F150 with ecoboost engine. If the truck is not used for two or three days it turns over very slowly or not at all. Charged the battery then drove it. I have checked the drain with all off and it seems to be 210 milliamps, then after about 10 or so minutes the drain drops to about 20mA.
Does anyone know what the drain should be when vehicle is off for several minutes?

20 milliamps is within specs and shouldn't cause a problem. How old is the battery? I'd look at testing, either a load test or, conductance test. Check alternator charge voltage as well. A battery has to both accept and hold a charge.

Keep in mind that these trucks have a charging circuit controlled by the PCM. It won't always be 14+ volts with the engine running. If you see the voltage varying between 13 & 14+, it's normal. They made it a bit more difficult to verify good alternators in these.

Duh. 2013 means 2 - 3 year old battery. Should be "Ok" from a time in service standpoint anyway, assuming it hasn't been run down flat.

That is one hell of a list (so far, even) though, 20 mA is considered OK and wouldn't result in any issues over the course of even a few weeks. So the first suspect should the battery itself, maybe alternator, etc.

Hi Jon,

Have you mentioned the battery issues to your dealer? If not, that might be a wise next step. How many miles are on it?

It most likely probably needs a new battery. We have a 2013 Ford F150 platinum ecoboost and if we leave the light for an hour the truck battery immediatley shuts off. Then when you go back to start the next day. It starts up and warns me that i have left the light on. Its probably the battery.

Thanks for all the answers.
I went to Ford dealer and they checked the battery and then I had them replace it. It tested bad.
The truck has more than 60 thousand miles so no warrentee on the batt.
Works fine now and the 2 other problems went away. Tow haul now works and the dash info returns to my settings.
Just like a computer, if it is giving you problems jus unplug it and wait awhile and plug it back in.

2011 F150 XLT Lariet 3.5 Ecoboost intermittent battery drain

Hello
I been having this issue for months. Traced it down to fuse 18 on the BCM (Brake-shift interlock, Keypad illumination, PCM wakeup, PATS) has anyone seen this issue before? I have changed out the Brake-shift interlock micro switch I don’t think the original switch was bad. When parasitic draw occurs I am getting 1.6 AMP draw when all fuses are installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance

yes.... the battery is not constantly charged by the alternator... the "battery control" logic tells it when the charge.. There is a two prong plug in the harness next to the negative battery cable... just unplug it and forget it..
