Apoc, I know there will be smoke damage all over, but were the flames contained to the kitchen?

Seems like it. The really bad part is the kitchen was the only part of the house that was finished. Brand new countertops, sink, cabinets, flattop stove, and refrigerator. The hardwood floors were the only remaining floor original to the house and they were back in perfect condition. The kitchen only needed a new color on the walls to make the wife happier and to paint the ceiling and it was 100% done. The rest of the house seems fine but the walls are pitch black like twitchy has been rollin coal in my house for an hour and the floors are soaked from the dishwasher line melting.

Well were in the hotel now and all showered up. House never got boarded up because the insurance company couldn't get anyone to come out to cover the doors so my house is wide open. I almost don't even care. I honestly have all I need. I have my family, my truck for both transportation and shelter if the need ever struck and I have a support system with you guys. What more could a guy ask for?

I know it's a different state but during my 30 years on the Fire Dept. the Fire Officer in command would call dispatch for the board-up, we had contractors on a list that specialized in this, and then the contractor would bill the insurance co. We NEVER left a scene unsecured, either the board-up guys would get there before we left the scene or a Fire Marshal (and usually a LEO) would stay on scene till they came and did the board-up. Until the investigation is fully complete the fire building is an "active scene" and has to be secured for legal reasons (if their is any question about a criminal act involved) and for security. Security also if the investigation is complete not only to safeguard the remaining possessions but to keep anyone from entering the fire damaged building and getting hurt. Insurance companies don't bat an eye at these board-up expenses considering the liability (which is on them) of an unsecured damaged building.

SO sorry to hear of this man. You are taking it with a very positive attitude though. The important thing is everyone is OK and not hurt.

Sorry you have to go through this, here's hoping for quick resolution and things return to normal ASAP. As most have said already, the important thing is everybody is safe and relatively sane, possessions can all be replaced, not that it helps much but there is light at the end of the tunnel!
