Picked up a '94 F-150, 300 I6/E4OD truck with a blown transmission (Only reverse, no forward gears) cheap last winter and was planning on making it a winter beater/garbage run truck so I can keep my '89 in nice shape when it's done.
I picked up a low km/mile 2wd E4OD out of a E series van with a 351w for a case of beer for the inners.
Need a quality rebuild kit, and while I'm in there, a shift kit. There's a lot of choices, any suggestions?
I don't plan on much more then daily driving the thing and maybe the odd dump/dirt run for working it. I do plan on throwing a lift kit and 33" if that changes anything for a shift kit selection.
Also, are the torque converters the same for all the "small blocks"? I couldn't find a solid answer on that and it seems like all the online trans shops sell one for the "small blocks", one for the 460 and one for the diesel. Just wondering if I can use the one from the 2wd tranny or not.
If you're rebuilding get a new converter. The 351/300 use the same stall 302 is a bit higher but they can be interchanged. Transgo shift kit seems to be preferred here, baumann is another option.
I've used kits from Home - Transtar Industries with good results. Never put a used converter on a fresh rebuild unless you really want to rebuild it again.
