Unhappy Shift reprogramming kit

I ordered and recieved a transgo shift reprogramming kit , I calleda tranny shop to see about putting it in. They said that with 100,000k on the tranny they do not recommend it. He said he has seen the e40d go out at 40,000 and that I am lucky to have made it to 100,000 . I then asked how much to rebuild it (nothing wrong that I notice anyway) he said $3500. My jaw almost hit the floor! I only paid $3000 for the truck! Anyone have any light to shed on this? Thanks.

don't let that mechanic work on your truck. you can get a freshly rebuilt tranny from any parts store for under $2000 and a mechanic should only charge <$500 to install it. my bronco had 283,000 miles on the original e40d with no rebuild ever. the torque converter for the e4od is usually the culprit

this kit, does it work electrically or mechanically?

Mechanic sounds like he didn't want to put the shift kit in. I've been told by many that the shift kit will make your tranny last even longer (Less heat buildup). $3500 sound pretty steep on cost for me. Check ebay when the time comes. I'm nost sure how good of a rebuild or anything, but I've seen a rebuilt E4OD for under a $1000 and it comes with a nation wide warranty for a year or 24,000 miles. Just giving you an option.

all e4ods are not created equal, what year is your truck? Ford fixed many of the problems with the e4od as time went on, and now the transmission is strong. from what I understand 96 and up had all the fixes, but others can be upgraded.

I've heard that the 1994's and up are the fixed tranny. I have no proof of this, just something I've heard around the coffee shop. Maybe somebody with some tranny knowledge can answer the question for us.

My truck

For some reason, it did not post this from yesterday?? . Anyway, My Bronco is a 1995 with the mass air . The trans seems to be working fine, however, as with any auto it has the lag time between shifts, and shifts from 2nd to 3rd while going up hills (I guess it thinks it will save gas by these "economy shifts?) Anyway, I put the kit on Ebay and it is selling just fine!. I have seen the cheaper kits, that don't come with a bunch of springs , mainly just the valve body plate that you drill the holes for firmer shifts. Is that pretty much all you need?

By the way, I posted pics of my truck in the gallery!

I have a 96 and know it has a few upgrades over a 94.
