Had dozens of remote starts over the years, no issues.
Well have one in my 6.0 and guess what? It held the starter on until it burnt. Wow did it stink. In the process of getting it all replaced and remote start company covering costs. I was able to test everything and determine that YES it was completely fault of remote starter.
Now to my real questions - Can I use the glow plug relay to create a proper "wait to start" signal? I cant imagine tripping a 12v relay is going to create any problems for the glow plug system?
Also what is anyone using for a tach signal? Lots of the diesel remote starts are using a "virtual tach" meaning they read voltage during cranking, and the instant the voltage comes up (engine has started) they disengage the starter. It seems a little scary to me. I used to install these way back when and remember that often the "tach" wire on diesels did not provide a clean enough signal, too low rpm I suppose.
Any help would be appreciated. Luckily for me I had this installed at a reputable shop so its all being taken care of, but I dont care for the way the glow plugs are handled. Basically its just a delay timer before trying to start. And yeah the tach signal scares me a bit.
Your remote start will have a "delay" for diesels. I have my delay set to 10sec. The truck fires right off. The starter is disengaged when a signal is identified on the cps.
Just ensure you get a "diesel" remote start. Mine is a Viper.

Yip mine is a Viper, diesel. 10 seconds not enough here, we go down to -40 or more in the winter!

I wont use my viper remote below -20. When cranking at those temps you want to cycle the glow plugs for at least 30 seconds. Starting isn't like a gasser, she may stumble for a bit. My viper was installed by the original owner in 05 and ive only had 1 problem that they fixed for free
