They do make starters for diesels. As an example my Viper alarm has a remote starter built in. They give you a lead to connect to the wait to start light, when the light goes out the truck starts cranking.
Yep, I have the Viper and it has a glow plug SENSOR not a preset timer. It will actually sense when the glowplugs have heated before starting, not like some of the cheaper ones that just have a preset timer. It also has something like a 1000 foot range which is nice... I can be on the fourth floor of our concrete building and start it out in the far end of the parking lot 100yrds away.
Around $450 installed. I work in Sommerville and had someone come to my office to do the install. I would not suggest going to the WIZ to have it done. Not sure what part of Jersey you are from, but there is suppose to be a good shop in PA over the Trenton Makes bridge.
There are also other brands available that have the diesel functionality, just make sure whatever product you choose has the wait to start light functionality.
Mobile Dimensions 908-281-9898. I actually have to call him for a repair. My lights are no longer flashing when I hit the alarm, I'm figuring the relay went bad. I'll be out of town next week and will call the following week.
Almost every remote starter available in todays maket has a "Diesel Mode" typically this feature is no extra work to install, although most shops will charge more for the installation. Most Remote Starters will connect to the vehicles glow plug wire or to the wait to start light. When this input changes polarity the remote starter will activate. Ford vehicles 2002 and up use a multiplex system from the dash to the vehicle computer so finding a "Glow plug wire" is not going to happn. In this case the remote starter should be programmed for "wait to start" The only thing to keep in mind is who you have do the installation. Use a well known shop and you can be sure that the woork will be done correctlly.
When mine was installed a wire was soldered to the LED on the dash, so the wait to start is working fine. The problem they had was mine was with the tach, they ended up using a constant time for cranking the engine.
