HPFP Issues
I am new on fte (as far as posting), I spend most of my time on PS.org. The thing about fuel system failure is 90% of the time its all about the filters. In no way do I endorse Ford repair shops (unless you are diesel tech ron...), they are almost always going to screw you on a 6.4 repair. But, with these trucks the more an owner actually understands the better chance they have of actually keeping them running. Not to mention interacting with a mechanic.

Thanks I was only asking because I'm trying to decide what to do with my truck.
Theres lots of people on here with ideas and they aren't always the same.
So know whos talking about what makes it easier to decide what to do.
Deletes, oil change, filters, and a good fuel additive will make the truck run like most people want. Its when you start adding power that things start to get confusing. People dig themselves into a HUGE hole when they just do deletes and start running 200-300hp tunes expecting to make things last. By doing that you as an owner are negating the benefits of deleting in the first place. It is a huge reason why these trucks go boom for "no reason".
And either way, all you are going to get on here or any other forum are opinions. Personally when the time comes the motor is coming out of the truck and its getting a full build. Pistons, stage 2 cam, new main and rod bearings, o-ringed heads, ported intake, rockers, push rods, lifters, studs, 6.0 manis and hd up pipes, and a few other little odds and ends. The first 2 on my list are the biggest problems with these trucks and unfortunately they are the most expensive to deal with.
All you can do is form your opinions based off of the info available. Once you set your goals and your spending limit you can really start planning. But cutting corners is never a good idea on a 6.4, and that's what I hope people get out of this HPFP topic. It has been proven that anything other than the Motorcraft/Raycor filters let water though.
I just want to get it fixed so I can get rid of it and run very fast the other way.
Shop says my fuel pump went and contaminated my fuel system...............
OK Ill buy that but.........................
If my fuel pumps gone that bad , how does my truck still run decent at times ? Or how does it run at all?

Have they pulled the fuel rails????? Or just the upper filter? You can't 100% diag a bad hpfp without pulling the fuel rails and checking for debris. Many shops will go based off of finding rust in the upper fuel bowl (its reason enough to dig further, but doesn't automatically mean the hpfp is done for).
EDIT
The 6.4 is a master at hiding problems... I know of more than few 6.4s that run just fine with a cracked or melted piston. The only tell tale sign is excess blow by.
Most people don't even know they have a failed hpfp until it becomes a hard start or no crank. Ford changed the parameters at which the p0088 and p0087 codes get set. They widened the tolerances so the average owner really won't ever know they have a problem till its too late. Only way to truly catch it is with a monitor and watching rail pressure like a hawk.
