I thought I was being brilliant when I figured out that I could siphon the fuel out and filter the goop(algae) out, so I did it. Truck fired up and ran great for about 2 minutes and cut-off like somebody just pulled the plug. I think that I stirred some sh@t up when I pumped the fuel out and then poured it back in. So I guess I get to drop the tanks anyway!
Remember, Even if you don't have time to do it right, you'll always have time to do it twice
Recall that algae isn't that common, its more likely polymerization products (the brown/tan/white stuff) from being stored too long before you bought it at the pump.
I mention it because I had fuel issues/filter clogging/smoking from decomposed fuel (polymerization). Figured it out after pumping a bunch into jerry cans and it had crap in it right out of the pump. Since then I've bough fuel only at the truck stops, where its always fresh. No problems or brown gunk since.
