Uncomfortable driver's seat

I have a 2013 scab xlt with a front bench seat with the center section that flops down into a huge armrest, or up into a 3rd middle seat. I'm fairly sure thats the same seat most of you all have. It has just under 40,000 kms (thats around 25,000 miles). The driver's seat on this thing is rock hard. I bought it about 6 months ago and was figuring that the seat would soften up a bit, but no dice. It is also at such an angle that it pushes up behind my knees. I'm 6 ft tall. When I sit on it for an hour or 2, I can hardly walk when I get out. My butt hurts, my hips hurt, my knees hurt, its frickin' crazy. I've slid the seat forward and backwards, adjusted the rear back angle, put a cushion on the seat, but nothing helps. I drove my old minivan for 15 years and never had this problem. My folks live 5 hours away and make the trip about once a month. This seat is killing me. My son has a 2009 F150, and the seat in that truck is much more comfortable. My bro-in-law has a 2011 F150 and had complained about the same issue in the past, but I never thought anything about it before I bought my truck. Does anyone else have this problem, and what have you done to get around it?

I have a 2011 XLT with the same seat as yours. I will admit that it's not as comfortable as some seats that I've had in the past but I've never experienced your level of discomfort.

The seats in my 2004 Expedition are great and I can drive all day without issue. My truck, I have to remove my wallet and continue to adjust myself to keep comfy.

Yeah, I never thought to mention that I don't sit on my wallet either. It's up on the dash with my cell phone.

I drive with the cruise on and try to keep moving my legs around to different positions, which helps a little, but not very much. I mentioned to my wife that if I can't get this figured out, we may have to sell it and find something else. She just gave me the 'look'.

Oh no, not the look!! The car that never wore me out on the road was my 1999 Taurus wagon with the leather seats. I could drive all day and all night without issue.

You could try upgrading your seats. The Lariat seats are nice and the platinum seats are even nicer.

After I blew out my back about 5 years ago the non-power drivers seat in my XLT was killing me. I traded the XLT for an FX4 with power seats and my back has been fine on long trips ever since. Being able to raise, lower and tilt the seat base made a big difference for me. You can get an XLT with power seats, but mine didn't have them.

power seat

Assuming you have a power driver's seat- are you aware that the power **** on the side of the seat can be twisted and make the cushion part of the seat be tilted front edge up and/or down?

I have to say that I too own a 2011 XLT with the bench seat. If I had to do it again I would have gotten the buckets. That said, I don't have significant issues with my seat. It may be in part that I put neoprene seat covers on it within a few weeks of getting the rig. there is about an additional 1/2 inch of padding in this cover which may have some effect on my tush. I did own a 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport which did cause severe discomfort. It too had the seat covers added and made no difference.

Yeah, guess I should've also mentioned that it is not a power seat. It's just regular run of the mill.

Oh that sucks. Mine is a power seat and that helps but the seat is still somewhat uncomfortable no matter the position.

Seat comfort, a little, big deal!

Sometimes overlooked and difficult to determine on a short test drive, seat comfort plays an important part in private owners vehicle satisfaction.

WG - I think both you and your wife would be more comfortable with a power seat upgrade, and you've realized that fact too. How you get there is up to you, whether it's replacing the seats or the truck, you have options.

Which option brings a smile instead of the look, may be the way to go?

Good luck!
