Hi guys, I am working on my engine rebuild and taking lots of pics to post later. Waiting on parts and cleaning up bits and pieces while I wait. I have a question regarding the instrument cluster. Will I be able to take the analog cluster from my 99.5 and put it into the '02, replacing the digital one? I'm not asking about the legalities, but the mechanics of this, as I am assuming it won't be that simple because of possible ecm hookup, I've seen a video where the dash goes through a self-test of some sort but can't find it now. Any thoughts??
TIA,
The '02 model year introduced a huge change to the electrical system. It's not just the a wire here or there - they went from the GEM to the VSM, they got rid of the starter relay on the passenger fender, many of the wire harnesses were completely reworked, and I can't use pre-2002 wiring diagrams to troubleshoot a 2002/2003 truck. Usually, going from one year to the next, it's close enough to troubleshoot - but this is a biggy.
Oh great, thanks Rich. So the cluster swap is a no-go then? I am now wondering after searching and reading a few VSM problem threads if there is an issue with mine anyway. Ever since I first got the truck and my kid hit the remote start fob, making me freak out, then realize it had a remote start system installed , I had starting problems I could never figure out. I removed a relay under the steering column which was good, but would not let me key-start the truck. I've used a small piece of wire to jump the relay sockets with the gin on for the last year or so. Could that be VSM related, rather than a remote start system problem, as I'd thought?
Thanks for your time.
