windows seals cont....

Finished the test corner piece yesterday and I must say it looks pretty awful, feels flimsy and had a tacky surface that made me think it's going to stick to the glass frame and pull it's self apart first time you pop open a window. I let it sit over night and the tacky feel has pretty much dissipated. This stuff handles like clay so the appearance will improve with more skilled hands shaping it. Like clay, I noticed that a little water on a tool or a finger tip helps to form the shapes. I also used a bit of vacuum hose as a form to reproduce the umbrella portion of the seal. The outer wall section of the seal is what feels weak. it joins as a tee so there is little to support it. I laid the product on like a lamination over top to form the missing umbrella/mating surface. I guess if it is just sitting there it may be sufficient. I'll keep experimenting with it. After I reassemble the one really busted up seal I'll rate the final outcome. At a glance I think I will be using this stuff to repair the cracks in the other seals rather than trying to make my own molds and produce seas from the product.

End Transmission

while apologize in advance. I've yet to figure out how to link back via a thread. So any fyi on that is appreciated. Still looking for the elusive window seals. if anyone had come across a source I'd love to here about it. I've tinkered around with versi-mold repairs but nothing seems to stick to the original seals. Flex seal seals to remain semi liquid if it's too thick. May harden in time?) The versi mold got a gummy feel after sitting around a while. I fear after it sat too long it may stick and peel. The flex seal did stick to the versi-mold real well and made a decent surface (so far). If it holds up I may attempt to recreate the seals in versi-mold and cover it with flex seal for an glossy finish. Truly I would rather hear that one you all found a source.

When you say "window seal" do you mean the front door windows, vent windows, side and rear door windows, pop-open windows, or PU windows?

No these are for the pop open side windows. Each has 2 seals one on the body another on the glass. It's starting to look like I may wind up welding sheet metal over he window openings and patch fiberglass with flat stock over the interior treatment. Any opinion is greatly appreciated.

Or you could replace them with the stationary (not pop-open) Windows. Weatherstripping is available for them. Someone might offer to swap their windows for yours.
