Just got mine yesterday too. What's interesting is, in the directions it describes how to tell if you need to use the magnet. The easy way to tell if you need it is if the spout of the nozzle has a stepped diameter. If it doesn't, there is no magnetic locking device and no need to use the magnevator...

On a scientific note, distilled water, deionized water, and demineralized water are all essentially the same thing - pure water with nothing else detectable at the under 1 per million detection level. I've made a lot of DEF from distilled water and technical grade urea - in fact that's all I run in my F350 (over 70 gallons so far). We've had it tested and it exceeds ISO22241 and API certification requirements. No magic, just very pure water, and very pure urea made in a controlled process with fine filtration to remove sediment, and good clean handing procedures.
On the subject of chemistry: I'm unaware of any testing of automotive SCR systems using dilute ammonia solutions in water. Since ammonia (which is a gas at ambient temperature and pressure) tends to escape from a solution with water as a gas, I'm skeptical that long term storage in a vented tank (like the tank in an F350 or other truck) works very well. Power plants and other NOx controlled systems often use anhydrous ammonia (pure NH3 not in a water solution) for their SCR systems to great effect and efficiency. The issue with anhydrous ammonia on a vehicle is that it is highly toxic and difficult to contain. Urea dissolved in water decomposes to ammonia in the heat of the exhaust stream and then is used to convert NOx to N2 and water in the vehicle's SCR unit. The water purity is important to avoid mineral deposits in the DEF injector, and to make sure metallic ions (like aluminum, copper, sodium, etc.) do not "poison" the catalyst materials in the system.
