I changed my tyranny fluid no more than 7500 miles ago. I didn't do the torque converter. That fixed my slipping issue. Now it's slipping from 1-2 gear. The rest seem to be fine. I thought my problem was my FIPL being out of range but it is at 1.175. Is it possible the fluid could be bad again this soon?
First, if you didn't flush or drain the torque converter you changed less than half of the fluid. Second, if a clutch is slipping it can destroy the clutch and fluid in less than 10 miles.

I am led to believe it is the fluid. All gears are slipping not just 1-2. I am going to do filter and change all fluid. I'll get back when I get that done which will be most likely tomorrow.
I find it hard to believe that any transmission fluid is going to make a trans slip IF it is otherwise in good shape. The wrong type or amount of friction-modifiers in the oil can make it shift hard, or soft - and cause premature wear. I can't imagine how it can make a good set of clutches wit proper PSI slip. If you put some odd-ball oil in there that made the clutch surfaces so slippery they could not take hold - it's likely those additives would get embedded in the facings and stay there a long time. I put GL5 oil in the wet-brake transmission in my bulldozer once that calls for GL1 oil only. After that it slipped and changing back to the correct oil did not fix it. I can't see how the FIPL switch is going to make it slip either. Shift terrible and throw it into limp-mode, yes.

Just for verification what is the FIPL supposed to be set to?
I dont see how fluid can do it either. But it can. Have a 94 Mazda 626, if anyone knows anything about em, the trans in em is about as welcome as the E40D. Was having all sorts of weird problems with it... long story short had it flushed, shifts like new.
That should be fine, but a MERCON V fluid would be even better.
I was able to fix my problem. After driving it more I realized it was indeed slipping but it was more because the shift points were off. I set my idle to 650-700 while in DRIVE with AC OFF and set TPS to 1.2 EXACTLY. Drove it for a while. It didn't fix right away but after about an hour (not continuous driving) it was fixed. I am hoping that that was my problem. BTW the TPS was set nowhere near 1.2.
