Romp question

15w40 oil. Temp down to 37 deg. Started truck at 50 degrees .... Got the romps. First time this happened, but.......

Been playing around with fuel bowl and filters. Can the fuel bowl, filter, etc have any impact on the the romps?

How many miles on your truck?

When mine had romps at similar temps, I switched to synthetic oil and they went bye bye.

The romps is an oil issue. Tired injectors and cold thick oil is what caused mine.

188k miles. Thought about the syn oil, but worried about oil leaks since so many miles and never had Syn oil in it.

I thought maybe fuel bowl related .... Maybe wrong

The switch to synthetic oil caused leaks in the early days, but car makers and oil companies learned from this long ago. Car manufacturers changed their seals and oil companies changed their formulas, so our era of the 7.3L handles synthetic oil just fine. The only caveat here is 4 gallons of modern chemistry is a tad expensive - but how much is it worth to you to fire right up on a cold morning?

*EDIT* Wow.... After looking at that vid for the first time in a while, it strikes me how much has been done since then... including the new windshield.

Shell Rotella T6. It's about $21 per gallon at Wally World.

I guess an easy test for this would be to plug it up one night (with the 15w40). If no romp, this has to oil related, correct?

I'm in northern Michigan,

I had serious romps when It got down t 15 degrees. Oil change to t6 synth. Started like a new truck (unplugged).

Make that your first investment. If it goes south from there.......GPR and glow plugs are the only thing holding that beast down if it runs good in the warmer temps.

How many miles you have on it when you switched to T6?

I switched to 5/40 Rotella T6 at 176,000 due to the romps two winters ago on my old injectors. Problem solved. I now run it all year.

I played with 5/40 and 15/40. 5/40 was better in the winter months.

I'm married up to 5 in the winter and 15 in the summer. This was a 12 year test on my specific truck. I did change to a stancor gpr and installed new glos 3 years ago. I also installed a new block heater at the same time. I still have the rubber on the block heater from day one. Never had to plug it in even in my temps. a lot to be said about the ribbed ones. 3 years of salt and it still looks fresh.....lol.

I would say in your southern climate, I would lean toward a thinner start blend.

World is your oyster. Synthetic is definitely going to provide a pearl for you from the get-go IMO.
