Ahha. It's the bracket that mounts to the firewall that keeps breaking. I was hoping the never version would have something not made out of pot metal.
The rest of the linkage is fine on mine.
Ford put that trapeze set up in there as a precaution in case the left motor mount breaks. Without it the rise of the engine pulls the throttle open. I'm all for switching to the Dent rod, I'm just sayin' make sure you have a good motor mount. Or one the has a secondary catch to it so it can't come completely apart.
That's how I broke the first bracket -- a busted engine mount and a large 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear burn out (I was so much younger then).
It was a different looking break than the second one. The first bracket is a bit twisted, and the pot metal looks 'torn'.
I'm not sure what caused the second one to crack. It doesn't look like a 'tearing' break (like the first one). The break line is nice and straight, like it flexed over and over until it gave up.
Either way, I think I'm going to go with a cable system in the near future, and possibly the chevy one that I have sitting on my desk...

If the firewall bracket breaks, that means the linkage is not adjusted correctly... - the action is too short and the bracket is no longer acting as a pivot but rather a fulcrum point.
That makes total sense to me. This weekend I'm going to make sure that when the gas pedal is matted, that the carb makes it to wide open. As you said above, if the linkage is too short (or long), it will cause stress on the bracket...
