When I was a teenager I saw someone get a tractor out of a mud hole in a similar way, with a pipe and some chain. He chained the pipe to the outside of the wheel, vertical not horizontal, and it was longer than the tire was tall. I would never have thought to try it on a truck with a motorcycle tie-down and a fence post or board even if they were laying right there in the truck bed.
I don't see many crew cab trucks of that vintage. Looks Like there is one less now.

I know, right? Never seen a 'Duty fold up that easy. Must have been bad work or repair on the frame previously.
