I have a 1996 F-350 powerstroke and over the weekend tried to fix my fuel leak out of the lift pump. I drained the fuel bowl and replaced the rubber lines from the fuel bowl to the lift pump and replaced the sealing washers on the banjo bolt. Once I got everything back together I went to start it and she cranks over just fine (even had a battery charger on to make sure I had the proper voltage) but it wouldn't fire up. Made sure fuel bowl had fuel and bled the air out of the schrader valve. But when I crank on it there's no smoke that comes out of the exhaust like it would in a cold start. So that tells me I'm not getting fuel to the injectors. Could I have possibly tightened the banjo bolt too tight? Am I not getting any oil to the injectors to open them up? How would I go about to make sure the HPOP is primed and has enough oil?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The wires to the IPR didn't accidently get un plugged while working on the fuel bowl did they? Do you get a wait to start light? if not check fuse 22 in the under hood fuse panel. A couple of places to check until others chime in.
I haven't checked the fuses and I think the fuse 22 blew because my wait to start went out and everything looks connected. But I'll check my fuses when I get home.
Give your bowl heater a second check too. If the small solder tacks broke and the element broke loose/shorted while wrench around the bow, this is a common failure that causes 22 to pop. 22 also provides juice to your PCM. If blown, your WTS will be out and you can crank all day without juice to the PCM.
