My hood underside is pretty ugly. I think either the battery blew up or it had serious out gassing and it corroded the metal. I repaired a section with sheet metal but the whole underside looks bad. Is there any coatings that anyone can recommend?
What HIO said or prime it and buy some of that bed liner in a spray can and coat the underside of the hood. Pretty cheap and will look nice. Make sure you cover everything you don't want it on. It splatters everywhere!
POR-15 requires a tie coat over it to allow a successive finish coat like enamel, poly, or urethane. It's basically a primer because POR is really slick. Without a tie coat, a finish coat will likely peel off over a short time.

Bring your undercoat and topcoat together with POR-15 Tie-Coat primer. This buildable, sandable, and easy-to-apply Tie-Coat primer was developed for those of you needing special adhesion characteristics for most painted surfaces, especially POR-15. You don't need to rough up or de-gloss the surface to get a top-notch bond. POR-15 Tie-Coat primer is highly resistant to penetrating top coats like lacquers, enamels, and two-component finishes. POR-15 Tie-Coat primer offers zero surface preparation and great interlocking adhesion qualities.

My inner hood was ugly but not from the battery someone painted it with black while it a dirty some peeled. So used a abrasive paint stripping wheel painted it with a black sealer then sprayed with undercoating.
Then added some insulation into the recessed cubicles areas then cover it all up with a thin may be 3/32 thick type plastic covering.

My large top tank supper cooing Rad top tank stated leaking after a few good hits so cut an opening to relive the pressure on it after having the top tank resoldered
Why so much insulation?~~~~~ well a change of plans after finding the plastic covering.
After buying a roll of thermo insulation at one of the good guys car show.
May be a little over kill but the hood stays cool.
