I believe that the doors are reinforced for those type of mirrors if that's what they had I would check into that first because if you just drill the holes they will be way to loose and could damage your doors not sure on that though but I know that doors were reinforced diffrent depending on which mirrors they had
I bought this truck specifically to pull a travel trailer. I have some pretty nice clip on tow mirrors, but the sport mirror are already so close to the driver that the angle with the clip on with darn near be even with my shoulder.
I was thinking something like this K Source® H3571 - Driver or Passenger Side 3 Point Mount Truck Mirror That way your could fold them closer to the truck when not pulling, and out when you have a trailer I even considered a custom bracket to extend the sport mirrors out and forward to retain the power adjustment? Can't wait to see where this one goes.
The swing-away mirrors ("7" shaped bracket, linked in post #1) have a DIFFERENT bolt pattern from the car-type ("Nemo") mirrors, so an extra hole would have to be drilled. To use the holes for the Nemo mirrors, you could get the big four-point towing mirrors, similar to the one linked in post #3, but with two mounting points on top. Those two top mounting points correspond to the holes for the Nemo mirrors.
On the swing away mirrors, has anyone used the extend a mirror gizmos for towing? I am looking for a solution to widen the mirrors for use with a 5th wheel and I have the swing away style.
I have a set of the sliders for the swing-a-ways. They are pretty rigid but not 100%. If you decide to keep your swing-a-ways you dont have much of a choice
As for putting the swing-a-ways in place of the sport(nemo) mirrors, they have a different bolt pattern
The nemos have a 5.75" bolt pattern
The swing-a-wasy are 3.75"
The nemo front bolt is 12.75" from the front end of the door
the swing-a-way is 13.875
The nemo rear bolt is 18.5" from the front end of the door
the swing-a-way is 17.625
So as you can see NONE of the bolt holes are reusable.
You need to drill 4 holes to put the swing a-ways in place of the nemos
But make sure you mount them back far enough or the wing window will hit the mirror
