My truck came with West coast style mirrors but after a couple of months owning my dent im not sure I still like them because they are so big and create tons of wind noise. I want to know if other enthusiasts see this as blasphemy or cool . Also if anyone has any leads on some small mirrors that bolt up to the factory West coast holes because i dont want to drill any holes in my doors.
I have the smaller mirrors similar to what you posted. My truck had those from the factory, so it had the holes for them already when I got the truck and didn't want the bigger mirrors one of the previous owners had put on. I doubt any "sport" mirror you put on will match the holes of your current mirrors. I like the look of the smaller mirrors on my '77, but they DO sacrifice visibility. Having said that, I want big west coast mirrors like that for my recently acquired Bronco, I think they look good on 4x4's when they've been lifted. That is my opinion, sir.
The size of the type 3 mirrors match the stand up cab lights.
IMO I'd see if you can locate some West Coast JR's (type 2's), same top and bottom holes just shorter arms and a smaller head and no 3rd leg. And that way only one hole to plug.
Those type 5's will not work at all as far as matching up to the lower holes and they are very small. I like type 9's myself.
I had some of the smaller Summit style mirrors on my truck. I didn't care for the reduced visibility. I went with the type 9 in the pictures. If I had a 3/4 or 1 ton I'd definitely be sporting some West Coasts though. Just trade trucks with me and you could have smaller mirrors.😈

i believe I have the same set on my 76'. They are stamped "ford" on the back . Honestly I wouldn't trade them for anything. IMHO they"fit" the vibe of these rigs properly.
How do we tell if these were OE to the vehicle?
I agree those west coast mirrors fit the overall look of you truck. I would only go with the sport mirrors on a lifted retromod type truck or tricked out low rider.
I have the same west coast mirrors on mine. I feel your pain.
There is a ton of wind noise even after sound deadening the cab.
There are pretty big blind spots in front and I can't see a ton out the back either.
For three years my garage doors were too narrow and I had to completely unbolt my mirrors to pull into the garage.
That being said, no way would I take them off. There are some things that are just "right". Factory west coast mirrors are one of those things.
The only mirrors I really "love" are the type 8. I have type 9 on two of my trucks cuz that's what they came with, and type 8 are very hard to find. And expensive.
Of course, the benefit of type 9 is at they don't cave in your door if you clip something....
I guess this makes me the odd man out but, I don't like those mirrors, never have. While very functional, they are butt-a$$ ugly. So my vote is yes, ditch them.
