New Trans
The motor makes about 500hp/575tq to the back of the motor. I have a custom build torque converter which I will have cleaned and inspected. For the trans, I am not sure just what to do, looking for input from the group here.
I am sure I could pay 5000 for a trans and get something that would work, but I need to not go crazy with the money here.
While not 100%, I don't think there is any major damage to gears/splines, etc. I think I burnt the clutches.
What I think my options are:
A local mechanic quoted me $2-4000 for just the rebuild.
Get a quote from a transmission shop here in town (could I trust them to build something strong enough for my motor)?
I have seen some on-line dealers that offer transmissions that claim to take a lot of HP, 500 or 600. Are these worth it? Can they be trusted?
Other options?
E4OD, 4R100 Transmission from PATC, E4OD, 4R100
They have a massive stock rebuild practice & their performance arm appears first rate.
Essentially what I had done was a Level 3 enforcer, but with my TC rebuilt & 95 Transgo upgrades & shift kit. They don't normally do this build on a pre-95 so mine was kind of unique.
It had a hardened shell added, 95-97 4 pinion steel o/d planet, 4 pinion steel reverse planetary, E4OD/4R100 6 pinion steel forward planet gear set. I also added a deep cast pan & had them tap it & mount my sender (which I could have save a few dollars on by omitting) All together I'm into it for $3400. Parts, labor, dyno & paint.
I told them my goal was at least 500Hp capable/reliably & the day I picked it up, one of the older guys at the front desk looked at the build order & said "Oh, it'll take twice that. Easy." We'll see.
I've had to sort out some computer issues, & I accidentally went off with the wrong converter, (they over-nighted mine at no cost when discovered) but so far I've been pleased with the shifting.
