But since you said your fire units have it I have to ask, how well does it work when you're geared up?
Most departments have a rule against driving in turnout gear. The driver/operator, engineer, chauffeur, whatever name you pick, does carry gear, but only puts it on after arriving if required. The D/Os responsibility is the apparatus... in many cases, he or she may go an entire fire and never put gear on, instead spending time pumping, helping drag lines, retrieving equipment, etc.
For me, the bigger concern is the boots. When you wear size 15 structural boots, trying to work the accelerator and brake pedals is a real challenge!

Anyway, if you really want a column shift in the higher trim levels, then the only solution I know of is to wait until next year and get a SD.
I was wondering about this. I haven't been able to 100% confirm it in literature... honestly I was expecting things to go the other way, that up-level SDs would also go to a floor shifter. Sadly, I don't really need the pulling capacity of a SD, nor do I want the gas consumption of the 6.2 (or the costs and drama of the PSD).
We have some Ram 1500's with 3.6L/8spd combos in the fleet. The dial shift works great. They are generally easy to clean, haven't had any issues with breakages. And no shift cable to adjust! The trucks of RAM mounts passenger side for compute equipment, no room for a console shifter.
I'm not sure if anyone here will have the answer to this question, but I thought I'd give it a shot.
I will be in the market soon for a new truck - probably a 2016 or 2017, as my 2009 is pushing 200K miles. I would go out and buy a fully optioned Lariat 502A package with the Sport Appearance package (4WD, 3.55 e-locker, 5.0 V8, supercrew, 6.5' bed). Except for one big problem... the stupid floor shifter.
I hate the floor shifter. I also use my vehicle for emergency response, so the center console goes away and gets replaced with an equipment console. With the shifter in the way, that's a real challenge.
I know there's other equipment inside the factory console (audio amp, etc.) which I would have no problem remounting. The big challenge is the gear shift. Does anyone know what it would take to convert the truck back into a column shift?
I just saw a 2015 F-150 3.5 EB in the austin tx area with the console and a column shifter.. I thought it was weird.
I'll resurrect this old thread to share the following information - this The Shifter can be relocated from one place to the other, I have personally moved the column shifter to the console in my '15 XLT.
It is an laborious process that requires the complete dash (& console if moving to floor shift) wiring harness to be swapped out, the shift cable also has to be replaced as the different shifter cables are not the same length.

Hey any interest in selling the parts from your swap? I have a 2016 with the flow through console and console shifter. Just found out that my wife is pregnant with kid number 4 so I need the extra room that a jump seat will provide. My truck is an XLT 302A package. Wife just hit me with this and too upside down on the truck to take the hit on trading in or selling so I gotta make it work. Thanks for any help you can provide.

There are quite a few guys wanting to do the opposite of what you want to do. Maybe you can hook up with one of them and swap parts (like you just asked above).
If you put it out there that you're wanting to do it.....maybe you can find someone nearby that would be willing to do it. You could pull both trucks into a garage and get to work....then both pull out with what you want. One huge plus is that neither of you need to put a lot of money into the swap. There are some technical details you'll need to work out.
If you decide to go that route, you'll want to offer the swap on multiple F150 forums to make it more likely to find someone near you. I know there are several guys that have done this on another F150 forum I frequent.
That was the VERY reason why I got the XLT with 302A! Didn't want Sport edition because there'd be a floor shifter. Having the center console means a lot more storage space, plugs for my phone, vents for the back.. and I have a column shifter. Very well worth it to me!
