Get the a motor craft new part and do it yourself. It a easy job.
But you have no extended warranty??? I would recommend getting one from ford or getting getting Mechanical break down insurance from GEICO.
Diesel are expensive to repair. When the warranty is up, I go get me a new truck. Its JUST to expensive to repair. You can spend spend more on repairs then the payments for a year. I did that with my 6.0.
The 6.0 PSD is the exception to the rule. The OP has an electrical problem and shouldn't be trivial to fix nor is it a problem related to a diesel truck.
I believe there's been some good suggestions OP, but I wouldn't throw $1300 at it unless your strapped for time.
Well they replaced my alternator and when the mechanic took it out for a ride he heard a noise at high speed operations and now he has to tear it back down to find out what pulley is making the noise. They have given me a free rental car but I just can't wait to see my early Christmas present. Santa always pays his bills. Thank you for all of the reply's and Crystal I couldn't figure out how to PM you. World Ford Pensacola is my dealership. I just can't believe that an alternator will only last a little over a year!

Thanks for keeping us posted, laurin. To send me a PM, just click on the "FordService" on the left side of my post, then select the option send a private message. Let me know if you're still having difficulty reaching out. You can also contact the Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673; they have the same ability to assist that I do.
The alternator is not part of the engine imagine that. so I have 51k miles so it is not covered under the warranty. Sad but true. They did find two idler pulleys they said went bad and they were indeed covered under the warranty.
Hi guys, final bill was $1,100.00. $360.00 for the alternator, the rest parts and labor. You have to pull the front of the truck to do just about anything but replace the fuel filter and change the oil. You have to pull the cab off to do that ( I don't know how to put a sarcastic face in here). Well it is done and now I know that you have to have two secret accounts, one for toys and one to fix the toys!

Did you shop it? That WAY to pricy. Try the site below before you pay for your next repair. Should give you a idea of what the street price is for the repair. It should have between 400 - 550. Dealerships are Stealerships.
Troy. I took a looked at where its on my truck. Its still think is a afternoon job.
On the warranty. Just to many expensive items on a diesel items on a diesel.
