The never ending saga of crap wrong with this truck (e40d not shifting)

Once again this dang truck is frustrating the crap out of me, seems it can't go more than a week without wanting a new part. So problem seems to be a shift solenoid, it won't go from 2nd to 3rd. No codes at all.

Try to manually change the gear from th #1 to #2 to od to verify its a shift solenoid.

Truck shifts 1-2 on the colum but not to 3. OD light works but is not flashing. I'll go through that chart to check everything I can

I don't understand how that would verify that it is a shift solenoid. Please educate me.

Since you know , why not help in your "normal" condescending way instead of being a jerk .

This way is more fun.

And maybe he knows something I don't and there is merit to what he's doing.

Idk if this is normal or not but this morning I hoped into the truck to drive the 2 miles to work and it shifted into 3rd. I won't get a chance to look at the truck today, we are running eggnog and that means a 16 hour day. I'm already 30 minutes into pasteurizing whole milk. Tomorrow I may get a chance to look at it after court. It really sucks to be so broke you have to fix your own stuff, but then also be working 60-70 hours a week.

Yes he does. I saw several posts that list what he can check. I don't have anything to add to those, they covered the subject very well.

If the manual shift idea works, I'm all ears. But I can't see how manually shifting 1-2, then going back to automatic mode proves anything.

That leads me to guess that the leading candidate is a stuck 2-3 shift valve. But that's just a guess based on the fact that it did shift to 3rd one time.

When my avatar had an auto i did this constantly because my shift solenoid from second to third gear was stuck and by manually changing gear it by- passed the solenoid and it worked, I dont know if the e4OD is the same but it's worth a shot. Im by no means a trans expert its just something the op can try

When you move the shift handle from 2 to OD it puts the transmission back in auto mode. The shifts are controlled by the solenoids, so this does nothing to determine if the solenoid is the problem or not.
