2010 F150 Oil Leak

I'm glad I found this thread!! I have a used 2010 F150 that I bought in February of this year, approximately 76K miles. The first leak I had (that I thought was oil) turned out to be that the rack & pinion needed to be replaced, which the dealership took care of. Now I notice another leak!! I took my truck to the shop where I normally get the oil changed & was told that the oil pan & plugs are all good. That leads me to believe it's the transmission, but there's no dipstick for me to check! The fluid stain on the carport is about a foot wide & twice as long...kind of a reddish brown color. I didn't buy my truck from any Ford dealership and I know that taking it to the dealer I bought it from will be a waste of time. Should I take it to the local Ford dealership to be looked at & fixed? I'm a single Mom & have a limited income, plus my truck is my only way to go.

should be a dipstick, top of engine, towards drivers side, mostly towards the back of the engine.

use caution

Be careful, I would not drive it until you determine that is is NOT trans fluid. There is a multipage post on here and has been noted on other sites and there is a video on youtube. There is a wire bundle passageway into the front of the transmisiion that has a rubber "O" ring seal. That seal has been a real problem, you actually do not know how much fluid has leaked if that is what is leaking and therefore may damage you transmission if it is too low and you drive it. This happened to me, mine had a washtube sized pool of fluid on the garage floor-maybe a pint of fluid. However, I had driven 200 miles continuously when I parked it and therefore did not know how much had leaked prior to parking so I called and had it hauled in to the dealer. It really looks like a mickey mouse way to keep fluid from leaking to me!

A leak of that size is cause for concern. If it isn't engine oil, it could be trans, differential, transfer case (4WD), coollant or AC condensation. If it was any of the other fluids like brake or power steering you would probably know it.
My 09 Explorer always leaves a trail of condensation from the AC. I have put some on my finger and smelled it to make sure it isn't trans.
I would take it directly to my favorite reputable mechanic shop right away.

There is a dipstick, bit it is only accessible from under the truck

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...er-change.html

There was a tsb that covered a leaking transmission bulkhead connector, and by all reports it leaks pretty badly.

I'd check with a dealership to see if this can be fixed under the powertrain warranty.

I had this exact same issue. For me it was the connector in the back of transmission. Fixed under warranty. There is a port right next to the exhaust running down the passenger side of transmission. Unscrew it and check level. Mine was low. I put 1.5 quarts in and took it to dealership. It's tough to check fluid cause it has to be operating temperature. So exhaust will be hot.

Welcome to the forum, Leslie! Getting your truck to a Ford Dealership is definitely a wise next step. If you need help after getting a diagnosis, I'll be happy to look into some options for you. Keep us in the loop.
