Welcome to FTE!

What is your intended application? Hauling gravel up mountain grades, or zipping around empty? If it's the latter, does your engine have a conventional distributor with weights and springs? While replacing a carburetor with a bit larger one is possible you may not get the results you want. Re-curving the distributor advance though, may be just what you're looking for.

I just want more power. The truck feels gutless and take a while to hit 40mph. I want to make the truck quicker, i dont plan on hauling anything. I never heard of recurving a distributer. What exactly is that?

It's basically just changing when and how much the engine timing advance comes in at different RPM. OEM advance curves are pretty anemic. This doesn't cost much of anything either, other than time. In your situation this is the way to go versus a bigger carb. That may make it run worse overall believe it or not.

What kind of distributor is in there now? I don't know much about the newer (heh) trucks from the 80s.

Welcome to the 300 six.

What trans, tire and axle ratio do you have? What kind of load?

At this point I suggest you sit back and read this Forum thoroughly and get a basic education on the Ford I6. Take notes, make a plan and then work the plan.

The weights are under the module mounting plate you really can't see them.
They might be rusted.
Air filter?
Fuel filter?
My 300 is stock except for DS 2 conversion and it runs just as good as a 302 I had an 85 F150...

Unless he has the tfi distributor then there aren't any. If that's the case he needs to research on the DSII distributor swap like you have in yours.

Now to answer wade108194's original question.

As far as the 2V carb swap goes there are a couple different ways to accomplish this. If you are working with a limited budget then an adapter on the stock intake is possible. But this will only give you limited gains due to the fact you are still feeding the engine through the 1V carb opening in the stock intake.

The better option is an Offenhauser C-series or Clifford 4V intake with a 4V to 2V adapter and then run an Autolite 2100 2V carb.

But you would be wise to consider swapping out the stock exhaust manifold at the same time. Swapping to a pair of EFI 300 exhaust manifolds (came stock on 87-96 EFI 300's 4,9L ) will give you the best bang for the buck along with 2V carb swap. These are basically cast iron shorty headers. When you improve the flow into the engine on the intake side you also want to improve the flow out of the engine on the exhaust side.

Do the above modifications along with a Duraspark II distributor/ignition swap ( if yours doesn't already have it ) and you should have a good reliable set up that makes decent power.

Fordman75 is correct. Autolite 2100 or Motorcraft 2150 (newer version of Autolite 2100). I suggest the 1.08 venturi carb if you can find one.,...jack

1.08 is 287CFM. 1.23 is 356 CFM You can go bigger if you want. 1.08 is a good compromise between performance and economy.,...jack
