Good morning. I have a 2000 F-150 w/4.2 engine. I put the heater selector on anything but defrost or a/c and the compressor still runs. Can anyone guide me in the direction to get this fixed? I know that when you rev the engine the compressor will stop running and I can make heat but at an idle it the compressor kicks off and on like it is in defrost mode
The air conditioning compressor
will operate in all modes except
PANEL and FLOOR. However, the
air conditioning will only function
if the outside temperature is about
10°C (50°F) or above.
Since the air conditioner removes
considerable moisture from the air
during operation, it is normal if
clear water drips on the ground
under the air conditioner drain
while the system is working and
even after you have stopped the
vehicle.
Under normal conditions, your
vehicle’s climate control system
should be left in any position other
than MAX A/C or OFF when the

Well guess I should of clarified.... It even operates when on panel and floor. The compressor clutch is operating as if it is in a/c mode. Sorry for confusion. But when you step on accelerator with heat all the way up it then kicks compressor out and you get heat as it should be.
for a quick fix, I would just pull the electric plug off the compressor ......... the description of what is happening is very abnormal and will probably take quite a bit of testing and checking to find the problem. I have not heard of a similar "problem".
Do what steve said and if it's still engaged, really the only other problem would be the clutch sticking on the compressor itself (NOT common but possible).
