Hello all. So today i went and filled up at the local fuel station. Yesterday my fuel light turned on about 1/4 mile from home but I knew the station would be my first stop today so I didn't mind it too much. However, after fillup today I got abut a mile down the road and my rig just died. Got her towed home and been messing with her a bit. I finally got the engine to crank up after removing the filter in the engine bay. She's very weak when started and stalls when put in gear, which I'm guessing probably just over half of the cylinders are actually igniting. Buddy of mine says there is probably air in the lines. Which at this point I'm assuming he's right. All the symptoms are there. Does anyone else have any thoughts on what they see happening here?
I would be more inclined to say bad fuel or some other coincidence. Take a fuel sample and have it tested. If bad fuel, hope you kept your receipt. Why didn't you change both filters? They come in pairs.
I have changed both filters and she won't fire back off. The only time ive gotten it to fire off is when the old filter was removed. I think what I'm facing right now is that the battery is too low to give the ficm the correct voltage.

For sure want to keep the batteries up to par, hard on FICM which is hard on injectors.
Have you checked the top bowl to see if it fills in a hurry when you cycle the key on? Might want to have a buddy watch it, it will fill in a hurry if it's working the way it should.
Is your water in fuel light on?
Cycle the key on three times once before you try it next time your ready to actually fire it up.
Yes, I removed the cover to the filter in the engine bay and watched it fill very rapidly. I'm afraid what needs to happen is me taking off the valve covers to bleed the fuel lines and then try to crank it. Something I don't have time for since I'm pc'sing today
Low voltage and you will kill the FICM. Sounds more like Dummy Plug Leak or some other IPR or FICM issue. Do some research on this forum.
What is this dummy plug issue you speak of? I have a month before I return to Virginia to work on this stupid truck. Lets hear some knowledge bombs drop.

The first knowledge bomb is it will be a colossal waste of time pulling the valve covers off to bleed the fuel lines. They are cast into the head and are open to the injectors all the time, not your typical set up of cracking a nut as you might on an old 4020 JD tractor. If you are getting good supply at the bowl and the HFCM is building pressure, then that likely solves that concern.
Has your truck had the blue spring update done on the upper bowl? If not then it's an easy mod and well worth the $60 or so bucks for the kit, you can do this without even taking it off.
Dummy plugs on later model engines do go bad. It's a plug in the oil rail that can be replaced and updated to a better teflon or-ring IIRC, I have an 03 but have read some about them. 03 early 04 do not have dummy plugs. Standpipes also go bad.
Might be an STC fitting as well
What year is the truck?
Do you have something to monitor vitals?
I'd say get a scan gauge on the truck before spending another minute on guessing. If you have fuel at the bowl, enough RPM and the right pressure with sync.... it should fire.
Unplug the ICP if your fuel is good. Make sure batteries are charged, cycle key three times and fire it.

the last time we answered questions about a truck right after the light came on... he had the same issue. Probably got into the tank to low and sucked up all the bad stuff off the bottom or bad fuel. Drain everything and go from there.

The fuel pick up is on the bottom all the time. Doesn't matter the level of the fuel.
Well riddle me this then. I'm out of town and on the highway, taking a short break so I'm not there to investigate, are these injectors self purging or is there a Schrader valve to bleed it?
