Need a new belt for my '05. Looking at getting the gatorback but I'm not sure on the part number. 4081331 is what I came up with. Is that right? I also keep getting directed to the Continental elite on amazon, seems to be the cheapest. Anybody know for sure if this is the same belt?
I also read something about a TSB for a skunky belt replacement to the original factory? Anybody familiar with that? Haven't seen anything much about it other than that one reference.
My truck is an 05 single alternator. I used gator back belt 4081265.
Finally found a readable part number from the belt in there. It's 3C3Z-8620-DB which cross references to 4081265F. Thanks for the tip!
Besides the squealing I'm hearing, while trying to find a readable number this morning, I found some cracks in the belt. Definitely time for a new one!
Gates green stripe for me, although Dayco is fine. I would stay away from Goodyear. They haven't invested in any R&D since Veyance bought them 7 or so years ago.. Now Conti bought them recently and are rebranding Conti elite.
X2 What 69cj said, I replaced my drive belt at 100k and checked the tensioner and idler pulleys and they all seemed good, well 10k miles later one of the tensioner pulleys seized up and ruined the new belt. So from now on I will be changing the tensioner and idler pulleys every 100k miles.
Waste of money to change a pulley that is fine. 140k and haven't had an issue. If they are gravely or loose then by all means replace it.
That's what I thought too until one that seemed fine ruined a new belt, but more importantly could have left me stranded while either traveling abroad or up camping where there are no parts stores. Cheap insurance in my mind.
Thanks guys, will definitely check the pulley's and tensioner when I get the belt off. I've also read to scuff them with a scotch bright or similar to clean them up as well. How hard is it to change out the idler pulley's and tensioner? Anybody got part numbers, just in case?
As to the cracks I found, there was one spot about 1.5 inches long that had about 10 cracks in it. Didn't look right to me. The rest of the belt looks ok, just squeals. Trucks got about 82K on it so I figured it's about time, that was before finding the cracks.
