I have a 2000 ford f150 4x4. The shifter that puts it into 4wd will go up and down but not left to right so I can move it. I live in Florida but the truck was a northern truck. A little rust underfneath. Not to bad though. Everything on it works and drives and handles good.
Anyone know the exact name of the shifting lever and what may be wrong. I think it's rusted and can't move left to right.
Use a spray can of penetrant and soak the shifter from under the truck or remove the cover in the cab or both to get at it.
Let it set an hour then try to move it but not force it hard.
Spray again, then keep working it a little at a time until it is free to move in all functions.
Once it begins to move, the penetrant should move with it and help more.
Once it goes free, I would use Brake cleaner to wash the Penetrant off then go to a silicon or Lithium based lubricant.
Good luck.
I was sure it needed to be worked loose. Thank for the input. An mentioned it was a northern truck and I got a recall saying it was a nother n truck. That they'd from up north rust faster and the has tank straps rust out. They replaced those free at the dealer. I will try everything you said. Do you know the exact name of what I'll need to but if I need to replace it. Thank you so much

An auto parts store like Advanced or Auto Zone will have all three products.
A loosent, Brake Clean, and Silicone Lube, all in spray on containers.

I ment the shifter itself. I searched for a new one. But the exact name of what I was looking for I didn't know. I'm gonna try your advice first.
The shifter says pull back 1 time for 4x4 high . Then push down pull left and back twords the seat for 4x4 low. It's will push down and up easy. But pulling back years the seat our left to right is froze up. I had my suspicions out was just rusted some and froze up. Your idea sounds logical. But I looked for new ones.I didn't even know what to tell them I was looking for. You know the strange names they put on these things. Lol.
Does anyone know the exact name of the shifting lever referred to. I'd like to just replace it I'd possible?
