A buddy with a 6.0 2007 is having trouble passing smog in California. He has taken it to a couple of dealers
What I know. It blows black smog and fails visual inspection. It has had the EGR value cleaned and the turbo cleaned. It spent more then a few hours in the being looked at. There is no CEL light.
Injectors and film are the first in my mind. He needs some live data readings. With out that he's just throwing money at it.

All three are righ. Jour just throwing money at a problem without knowing "WHAT" the problem really is.
Live data. If he is down south take it to see Ron. I have sent people to him before and they have come out happy.
He is down near Hemet CA.
Are you saying it fails the visual inspection because of the black smoke or the visual inspection because of replaced parts ie; air filter, or some other CA prohibited item.
If it is just black smoke, I would look for a friendlier smog station as the black smoke is a subjective measurement. At least it was last year when I had to have my truck smogged for the last time in Ca before I was able to move out of that place.
A buddy of mine went through the same thing, went to a different smog place and it passed.

When you say FILM is this film build up in the injectors??
On the out state address, In CA the cops wants your drivers license matched to your registration. I have had this issue with a car registered in Idaho. I fixed that by getting a Idaho license.
