Equipment modification tickets

For all you guys running the Spartan tuning and DPF deletes, has anyone actually gotten a ticket or had the vehicle impounded for running a vehicle without emissions equipment? I live in Eastern Washington so there is no emissions testing here (yet that is), so that is not a problem. I have been reading about Spartan for the last two years since I bought my truck and wonder if this is really an issue? I am about ready to bite the bullet but I don't want to deal with the local Police if I don't have too!

Well that's good to know. I was just wondering if a cop would know that my truck was blowing black smoke and it shouldn't be. LOL. I would love to drive a truck with Spartan installed before I buy it but I am sure I will be happy with it.

This one would....... You're in good shape though because I'm in VA and you're not...LOL. Seriously though, I could care less about it.....the EPA can worry about that crap.

Most cops are just like us and have a modded diesel at home waiting for them. I live in a heavily patrolled area with alot of cops and have tinted windows (illegal) and plan to have fully spartainized setup (epa illegal) 99% of the time they pay no mind cause they admire the truck and respect guys like us that take care and drive these beautiful machines, but if you drive like an a-hole and are ignorant to the officers, they have every right to hit you with the book. Its one of those things that they can do, but most likely never will. I would suspect though that a Highway Patrolman is fairly likely to know what is legal and not legal due to the heavy trucking on his highways. I have always driven modded trucks and never had an issue (knocking on some pine)

You'd be surprised at how little smoke comes out of these trucks with the Spartan tunes and DPF removed. If you really lay into it then she'll choke out the neighborhood but for every day driving there is no real visible difference in smoke compared to stock. They could always check the tail pipes for soot but they usually need an excuse to pull you over and get that far with it. I wouldn't be worried at all and just remember to drive it nicely if and when the bacon is around. And when their not, strap in, hold on and have fun!!

Okay guys. Sounds like I shouldn't have to worry much about it. If I drive around like an A-hole, I guess I deserve to be pulled over anyway!

Yeah, if I were a state transport police officer I would look at it the same way. If I pull you over and you are an a-hole I might be inclined to go all the way. If you're cool, then all's good.
