Hi All I'm new to posting here but, been looking at all your useful help and knowledge. I have a 1974 F-100 4X4 has a 460, Dana 44 front end (not sure what year a 9" rear end form a 1977-78 F-150 , NP 435 Trans and a Dana 21 transfer case. The steer gear box is from a 1980 to 1982 GMC 3500 van Saginaw box the pit-man arm is from 1967 to 1972 Ford truck modified by the guy who built it. My question is form the pics below what drag link/ tie rod ends do I have? I was told by the guy who built this back in 1989 or so that that was original but, not sure. please need help Mark P.S. I can take more pics or supply more info.
Does any one know where I could start looking for parts? I tried LMC, Rockauto, Napa, ect. The double flat with the Stabilize shock and Steering link throws me off. Any help is greatly appreciated. Opps it does have a 4" body and 4" Rancho suspension lift.
'need better pics of the steering box/pitman arm area without the glare and darkness.
Take a pic from above (down the engine compartment) and from outboard of the left front wheel. We also want to see how and where the steering gear is mounted.
.. I can't even tell which way the pitman arm I pointing. Has it been heated and turned????
hope that works better. I know the gear box is a Saginaw from 1980 to 1982 GMC 3500 Van and the Pitman arm is modified what I don't know is the drag link and center link. The top and last pic shows where the center link and stabilizer shock. A top view would not work sorry. The pitman arm has been heated the guy owneda repair shop in Tucson so he did lots of research how to do it correct. He never wanted to sell it but, had to due to $$$.
That looks to be the stock drag link and track bar for a 75 with manual steering. Because the drag link moved rearwards, the previous owner relocated the steering stabilizer to the axle. It would normally be nearly inline with crossmember and connected to the drag link where the frame bracket is positioned. I bet if you look under the crossmember there will be two bolt holes.
I had the same on my 4WD 73 until I swapped to the 78/79 steering gear and links.
Give your setup you could probably do the same. However, I am not sure whether the 78/79 drag link has the correct shank to fit that pitman arm.
Usuallybowtie that makes sense the guy did say it was original and it was assist he broke up when we were talking so would it be 1974 or 1975? I just want to make sure what I ask for at the parts place.
Doing this right now. Working on my sons 1975 f100 , it has a 390 manual steering and granny speed. I just installed a referred 79 Bronco steering box. Take a look at my post on page three girls dome pics that may help. I still need to finish the pulley and pump install.
