cracked bellow question

Driving home 2003 6.0 started blowing a ton of black smoke, cars wouldn't get behind me. Found an exhaust leak on the driver side up y pipe. Would that cause this much smoke? 2 codes were 0284 and 0281, I replaced those injectors about 10k ago, at the same time replaced turbo, hpop, egr valve and cooler delete, and new oil cooler. any ideas?

Those are contribution codes for both 7 and 8. 7 and 8 are on the back of the head on each side. Did you check fuel pressure when changing your number 7? The back of the head is furthest from the banjo fitting feeding fuel. Min 45 psi, should be up around 60 psi at idle.

No, I didn't check psi, thats why I'm confused, cracked bellow exhaust leak, causing way over fueling, and throwing codes on back 2 cylinders. I'm wondering if something else is going on, or could the crack cause that.

It would have to be a severe crack to cause significant smoke.

Turbo lag would be especially noticeable.

Agreed. I was thinking more in the line of bad injectors.

x3, though we can hook you up with a replacement y-pipe on exchange for $250 if that is helpful. For that matter, we can get you the replacement bellows for $50 if you are handy with a welder.

Just to follow up, I replaced the y pipe with the MBRP and it fits perfect, but the problem was the number 8 injector that I replaced in June. It was dumping so much fuel it almost locked the motor up.. not sure why I got the cylinder 7 code yet, but every thing seems fine at the moment. ..
