Replacing new hub/rotor assembly from 9/16 studs to 1/2 studs

Can anyone tell me if I am ok to replace my old hub and rotor assembly which uses 9/16 studs on my 1989 Ford F-250 4x4, with new ones from LMC which have 1/2 studs. When I ordered them, I thought that I had the right part number, and really don't want to send them back due to shipping cost. I have already purchased the new lug nuts for the 1/2 studs, but. Want to know if anyone else has had the similar issue. Thanks for any help.

My general thought for things like this is use what came on the vehicle. There's a reason they're 9/16" and not 1/2" so on a 4x4 I'd think that part would be somewhat vital to strength of a mounted wheel staying mounted.

Not trying to be a smart azz but smaller wheel studs---really?

Why would you want to go to a smaller lug size, the rear would still be 9/16?

Is this a D50 or D44HD front end?

The lug hole? The size of the lug hole doesn't matter as long as the lug stud will pass through it. The wheels don't center on the stud itself they center on the nut. The nut needs to be right for the wheel not the stud.

This could be a reason for wanting 1/2" studs. If for example he's using a wheel that needs an unusual lug nut and he can only get that nut in 1/2". In that case as long as the hub is right for the spindle and rotor it should be fine. Replacement rotors would be an issue though down the road, the rotor and stud do need to be sized the same.

if the size did not matter.. then why did Ford spend the extra dime for 9/16 and not install the 1/2 to begin with.

the larger size is stronger... for a reason.

Do it Correctly. or do NOT do it at all.

That's not what you said, you said the wheels wouldn't fit.

9/16 is overkill, Ford made all the 8 lug trucks 9/16 just to have them all the same, this includes duallys. 1/16 of an inch isn't going to make that big of a difference on the front of an F250. I'm not saying it's wise, just that it's not going to break.

OK, will not fit CORRECTLY. it will go on.

I would understand IF the correct part was NO LONGER MADE...

overkill or not. its not right. and in my opinion not safe.

this. the rotor will be sloppy and eventually cut into the studs causing stud failure.
be safe and send it back for the correct part. it will be cheaper in the long run waiting for the proper part.
