Unhappy Battery issue on a 2008

Good Day Guys
I am need of help my mother in law has a 2008 Ford F150 V-8, not sure the size. Anyways, my sister in law has been using it for the last 5 months, and the other day it would not crank so they pour coke over the battery and replace a fuse. And it crank up, now its 2 months later and it will not crank. So I went over there and took and clean the post and the cables really good. I am not sure where this fuse is that they are saying is for the battery. I was seeing where this fuse is and if you can jump start this truck because they are telling me you can't and I don't understand that. Can I please get some help?

Welcome to FTE

How old is the battery? It would probably be best in this situation to have the battery tested at an auto parts store. If it is say, 4 or 5 years old simply replace it.

Jump starting is really an emergency side-of-the-road procedure and should be avoided whenever possible, the alternator cannot recharge a dead battery effectively and may be damaged.

The battery is only 2 yrs old. I will take it to Auto Zone and have them test it. But I am trying to figure out about this "fuse" thing that my sister in law keep telling me about

It would be easiest for them to show you what they did.

You will need a DVM (voltmeter) to check things out at some point if you want to do this yourself.

If you can get the truck started AutoZone or maybe another store can test the charging system while it is running.

They don't want to show me anything because if I get this up and running mom is going to take it away from them. So I am having to figure it out. I am going to try and get it going tonight and then take it somewhere and have them test the starter and alternator.

It may very well be the starter. Get the battery tested so you can rule that out. I was certain I needed a battery only to find out it was my starter.

None of my business, but it sounds like much of the troubles here have nothing to do with a truck... they want you to get it started, but they won't tell you what's wrong because they don't REALLY want you to fix it?

... maybe you should just have the inlaws tested?

In any case, I think their theory that this truck can't be jump started is incorrect.

If you're trying to jump it with a car, connect the jumper cables (make sure it's a decently heavy duty set of cables) and let the car run for a few minutes (don't try to start the truck). And I mean minutes, not seconds... then after a few minutes (keep the car running), try to start the truck.

I suspect that when they tried to jump start it before, that they connected the cables and tried to crank it without allowing any time. And/Or they may have been using a cheap set of cables. Or both.

Good luck figuring out this issue. And also hope you can get the truck started.

Get it towed, get it fixed by a mechanic.
