Question PSOM problem

first time poster. I have a 1997 F250 Powerstroke automatic.
PSOM gone bad. Can I just change speedometer, and use 1996 -1997 from either gas or diesel, or any other previous year.

Any '92-'96 (or '97 F-250HD / F350) should work, gasser or diesel.

One note: you will end up with the milage of the donor speedo

Unless you swap the EEPROM over... then you can keep your mileage. Requires good soldering skills and of course your current EEPROM must still be operable.

You do not have to solder. Just read the information from your old PSOM's EEPROM into your home computer and then send the information to the replacement PSOM's EEPROM.
Just requires a EEPROM reader/burner hooked to your home computer running XP OR 7.

That works too! Just figured soldering was easier for most.

People still use XP? Lol. It was actually a pretty good OS I guess... the latest I've used is 7 but I prefer Linux over anything from Micro$oft.

Yes I use Linux also but the software for the EPROM read and burner only runs on XP & 7 and older Micro$oft OS. I have 7 also but a lot of my stuff does not run on 7.
You can also change the change number of changes with the EPROM burner back to 6.
Then you can just copy the rest of the data over to the working PSOM.

If you are good at building electronic circuits, look up PonyProg.

I use that and had no issues. I have not tired reading the EEPROM directly off the PSOM yet, but it should work.

I did finally figure out how to "000000.0" the odo but have not figured out the parity check enough to set mileage to what ever...
