The guy I sold my 97 f250 to 2 weeks ago just texted me and asked if I ever had any trouble with the odometer and speedometer, which I had never. He said he was driving it and all of a sudden the odometer jumped fro. 206k to 338k and the speedometer quit working and it won't count miles either. I have no explanation for him. Never heard of a obs truck doing this. Any ideas?
IMO, it was sold as-is, where is... not your problem.
absolutely that was my thoughts exactly. I was just curious since I never heard of this happening on these obs trucks. Made me wonder how he had been driving it as in if he was maxing out the speedometer.
If the odometer is blank, there is a fuse in the in cab fuse panel. If the fuse is blown, the digits will not show and it will not register miles. There was a guy from this part off the country that pulled that fuse and ran the truck. When he traded it, it showed a lot less miles than was actually on it.
Sounds like something went crazy and it’s now showing on metric
Good catch, I know there is a odometer -speedometer cluster self test where if you push the trip button in for a few seconds it will execute that test, with key ON, I think. Only did it once, the speedometer went from zero to max then back to zero. I went no further, realized I was in uncharted territory and just turned the key to OFF. Never tried it again.
Something like this, from the Nation. I posted many years ago regarding this and will see if I can find it ...
Ive been trying to research this but with no luck...I am trying to figure out what the individual tests and codes are for when I do the self test using the instrument cluster. Incase this is new info for some, here is the procedure..
1. Toggle your trip computer to your total mileage, then turn the key off/engine off.
2. With key off/engine off, push and hold the trip reset button and then turn your key to the on position, but with the engine off. Hold the reset button for about 5 seconds then you will see "TEST GAUGE" appear on your odometer.
3. When keep pressing the trip button and toggle through all the info it gives you.
