Need a QUALITY Tarp
Yes it is sad, but my '49 F-2 doesn't have a garage to sleep in, so she has to sit outside in the weather. To try to cut down on some of the damage done by the loads of precipitation we get here in southern Indiana, I have decided to tarp the truck when I am not using it. Bought what seemed like a decent tarp at a local farm supply recently and have been using it for the past two weeks. Got a bit of rain three days ago, and I decide to check and see how dry the truck stayed.
It was soaked. Damn Chinese made tarp is full of tiny holes, and leaked like a sieve.
Does anyone here know of an internet seller who has quality tarps? To cover the entire truck, I need one about 25' X 15'. No one around here seems to have anything that comes close to being worth dropping a dime on.
I'd recommend getting a high quality custom fit cover and forget about the tarps.
Between wind lifting them, the subtle abrasive texture rubbing against the truck in the wind, water penetration, lack of properly located tie down locations.....they aren't suited to cover a finished truck. A tarp is good for a pile of rusty parts maybe, a cord of firewood sometimes, and a highway crash scene always - but not for something nice and of value underneath.
Take a look at the LMC catalog for example they sell some good covers. They have three grades of them. I bought the nicest one they had and I am very happy with it. It fits my F2 like a glove and I don't worry about rain or other problems. Longbed and shortbed ones are available specifically for our trucks. I'm a frugal person and hesitated over spending almost 200 bucks with shipping but holy smokes it was worth it.
Just a thought.

Gertie is pretty rough and rusty, but I truly want to slow down the deterioration as much as possible.
I'll just mosey on over to LMC'c website and take a look see.
Thanks Tom and Dave. I will get my order in in the next week or so, and get Gertie "under cover".
Glad to help.
Plan to rig up a few poles in the bed to keep the rain from creating a salad bowl full of rain. Unless you want to keep some bass and perch in there.
That is an 8-foot span and no cover can prevent it from drooping inward toward the bed floor. Put some tennis ***** on the top end of the poles to keep it blunt and safe for the fabric.
You'll be happy with a nice custom longbed cover.
Tom
