I am going to be doing my exhaust soon on my 1967 F100 with a 351W swap. I want to go for the make the ricer **** their pants sound. I am thinking about running 2.5" pipes off the manafolds to (2) 40 series (non deltaflow) Flowmaster mufflers dumped under the bed. does anyone have a setup like this? And if so how's it sound?
Hit Man X is right... it'll be loud outside but you interior will drone really really bad! You'll probably like it for a few days but it'll get on your nerves sooner or later. A straight-thru muffler will give you better performance and a more refined/controlled aggressive sound. But, if your stuck on using Flows then at least run some pipe out back... DON'T dump it, it'll double the resonation.
I like the sound of Flows, just their lack of power disturbes me as well as the constant DRONE! Dumps are cool for a weekend car, you will get sick of that really fast also.
Thanks for the replies. I do know that there will be alot of resonance but I am used to it. I love the sound of flows on big engines makes little ricers crap their pants when you rev at them.
i just put on the original 40 sereis flowmasters tru duals....and i disagree with the other guys. the flowmasters sound awsome at low rpm and devastating at righer rpms and that drone is what i have been looking for.an example bro, take a chevy ,doge and a ford without mufflers just straight pipe and compare the tones and sounds ,ford has a sickening prrrrrrrrr comparead to the doge and chevy ,they naturally have that deep rumble that sound good with straight throught mufflers.
man i have spent over $2100 changing mufflers and exhaust setup.
go straight from b4 the kats by the y by the stock o2 then runn tru duals from there with a crossover about a foot and a half down stream then your original 40 sereis flowmasters side by side exiting the back.
if u'r a young cat, go with flowys bro, i am happy with mine!
HIT MAN X, MAYBE I DID'NT OVERSTAND YOU THERE , SORRY!
i think thats just the way it is with mufflers, for a while you will like the sound untill your taste changes, cause the way i am ,i know i will try different mufflers on my truck and never be totally satisfied, thats why maybe having yur mufflers changable with clamps ready to remove and change in minutes.
That's okay. My tastes have changed very quickly over the last few years, loud was cool but not anymore. That drone gets on my nerves superfast as I do lots of highway commuting.
I like more mellow sounds now, somethink noisewise like a stock Z06 catback, stock SS catback, stock Mustang Cobra catback, etc. But with the higher flow internals...that is why I like Magnaflow. With full length headers and high flow cats those Magnaflow's are plently loud for me.
I have an appointment to have my exhaust done in a week. I'm going with 2.5" pipes from the manafolds (until I can get headers)
to an H pipe after the transmission to two 40 series Flows dumped at the axle. The shop recomended the dumps and said if I didn't like them within a month that they would put on tail pipes for no extra charge. The price for this whole setup including mufflers comes to $250, I was surprised how cheap it's gonna be.
