About 3 weeks ago my speedometer stopped working on my '52 F1.
I found the speedo cable broken near the trans, replaced the cable and speedo was working fine for a few weeks.
The last 2 times I drove the truck, the speedo initially worked- then hung up at round 40 mph. I unscrewed the cable at the speedometer and the needle fell to 0.
Today- the speedo didn't work then gradually climbed to 100 plus MPH.
Again I unscrewed the cable at the speedometer and the needle dropped to about 5 mph, then to 0 with a little tap on the face.
Is this an issue possibly solved by lubricating the speedometer?
Thanks-
Pulled the speedo and disassembled and cleaned and lubed- spun with drill and it still seemed to hang up depending on orientation of the face- If I held the unit upside down it worked better.
Finally put it back in the truck and test drove- same things happen.
Going to find a used part and then send mine out for a rebuild.
Any tips as to the best places to send it and ballpark $ involved?
Thanks to Mike- Rimrock F1-
I now have a working and more accurate speedometer!
Took me a few minutes to figure out how to reset the odometer to my trucks actual mileage- but I figured it out.
