2015 Oktoberfest all topic thread
speed slowly out there this weekend. cheers guys.
Jim
All my plans to get after the Tranny rebuild fell apart after "The War Dept." woke up. She can change my plans faster than anybody I know, and seems to have an inexhaustible list of things that I HAVE to do right now. I'm going to sneak out of here this morning and make another attempt...We'll see.
Hope you all have a great day out there.

I will be leaving in about 20 minutes to meet with the couple who are selling the one owner Thunderbird.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

Another shop day today, but it looks like woodwork, not mechanics...
Hope you all have a great day out there.
Since I was having second thoughts about buying the car with all the problems of AC, power windows, and seat not working, I decided to check on a different car in Bakersfield. If it were still available, then I would call the lady back and tell her I found a car in better shape for more money and would be getting that one.
Long story short, the car is available, but is not in Bakersfield, it is in Exeter, which is 10 miles east of Visalia. So instead of having to go 110 miles to get it, I only have to go 55. Only problem with the car is it will need tires soon. He says he would not recommend any long drives, but around town driving should be fine. They still have tread on them, but are several years old. Everything else works, AC, windows, seat etc. So I don't mind spending the extra $400 to get it. I will pay a friend to take me down there. An even bigger problem is that he lives in Bakersfield, and won't be able to get up to Exeter until this Saturday, which means I will have to wait another six days. I am not a patient person, so it is going to be a long six days. I can tell that already. LOL.
Since the owner has already pulled the CL ad (I guess he doesn't want to tell anyone that calls that it is already sold) I can't post a link. However, I was in the process of getting screen shots of the different pics of the car anyway, and just happened to take one of the ad, so I will post that instead. The interior is blue, and exterior is silver, so what would that be Seahawk colors? No wait, Dallas Cowboys are silver and blue right?

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
. Besides, in order to tow legally, I would need a DOT number, and business license, and business insurance. And there is no way I could afford all that. Maybe, if I find a Ranger for sale when I get the SSDI back pay, I will tow ATV's and motorcycles, however, I have noticed that tow jobs for them on Uship are very rare. I am guessing because they are so small, most people haul them themselves.I couldn't find a Ranger under $1,500 that did not need major work done to it (heads, or head gaskets, in the two cases I did find) So, I decided to look for a Thunderbird I can use on those scenic drives that Adam organizes. (The same guy who organizes the Raptor off road runs). The one and only trip like that I took was cut short when my Jaguar XJ6 spit a timing chain guide bolt out the oil pan. Sort of puts a damper on things.

In any case, I am now waiting for Saturday to arrive post haste. So I can get my silver bullet up here. It is $100 more than my self imposed limit, as I really did not want to spend more than $1,500 for a vehicle, so I would have enough to cover registration, title transfer, and insurance, however, if this car is indeed in need of nothing except tires, then it will save me money in the long run compared to the green one I was going to buy that needed some possibly expensive work (AC) and some known expensive work ($500 to reupholster the driver seat in tan leather). I know I paid 60 dollars for the window lifts for the Bronco, so I would imagine they are the same for the bird. So that is $120, which of course, does not include the labor to install them. So, I figure this silver car has already saved me about $1,100-1,200 over the green one and I have not even bought it yet.

Good luck selling the house. I don't know how well the housing market is doing in Arizona, so I don't know if it will be an easy sell, or take you awhile.

I may do that with the silver bullet, but I am also thinking I might just go to Les Schwab and buy two tires one payday and have them installed on the front, and then wait until the following month to get two tires for the rear. I don't know if Thunderbirds came with space saver spares, but if not, and there is a full size tire there, I will replace it too if it is as old as the ones on the car. Another thing I am going to do is renew my membership with AAA. I was thinking of doing that anyway, especially when it looked like I was going to buy that SC in Squaw Valley. And, as if they were reading my mind, I received a letter from them telling me my membership had expired (well duh! it had expired about six months ago) They are quoting me a price for their standard membership, but I want to get the Elite membership I had before.
Jim
So, I'd place the first set of new tires on the rear, then move them to the front when you replace the other two.

Jim
Been thinking about that new tires in the rear idea. Since we are talking adverse weather conditions. What happens if you put the new tires in the rear, leave the old ones up front, and because they have little to no tread you end up hydroplaning off into a ditch? Granted, it would have to rain pretty hard to have enough water on the road for that, but that is the reason I would want the new tires on the front. I would rather be able to steer my way out of a problem, or avoid it altogether, then have the back end follow me into the ditch after hydroplaning.
