Good Morning NorCal...It's still dark here at 7:10 this morning.
Hope you all have a great day out there
Did you by chance take a look at the Eastern Sky this morning? Four planets visible in a group. The new moon (absence of moon) makes them bright early on. I noticed that when the sky began to slightly lighten, prior to sunrise, they began to dim some.
Good Morning NorCal...I'm usually up by 0430 and "The War Dept." and I have our first cup of coffee on the front deck checking out the stars. Unfortunately I don't have a good view of the early morning sky to the East. Thanks for the link.
More shop time today...Hope to do a little more on the Transmission rebuild.
Jim, try benadryl. I know, I know, it's an antihistamine... But it really does help you sleep. When I'm suffering a little insomnia I'll take just one pill and I'm out for the count. The only downside is I wake up a little groggy, but feeling well rested.
how do fellas? not much new to report on here from oakland. all is quiet along the tracks... i got to thinking the other day about the times when folks could get away with riding trains across the country.. you know, the real hobo life.. theres still a group that does it but its much much more difficult and i've been reading quite a bit about how to spot the right train to hop on. and where. which cars, what not to do, and how to travel.
have a good week guys. speed slowly.
Getting ready to take a train trip eh? Be careful.
I got a pleasant surprise today. My monthly disability check arrives the second Wednesday of every month, and I decided to check my bank balance online before heading out, just to make sure it arrived. It did, but my balance was $1,875.46 higher than it should have been, and upon checking the deposits, found one from the VA.
I had not heard anything from them saying I would get a check, but I had filed a claim for a hearing loss disability due to all those years working on the flight line. Well, when I got home and checked the mail, I found a letter from the VA telling me my claim was approved, and they back dated it from August of last year until today. Which explains the extra $1,875 in my account. Starting next month, I will receive $133 from them every month. So, needless to say, I am a happy camper.
Now all I need to do is find a decent vehicle for $1,500 (if one exists) and I'll be set.

Well, it looks like I may be getting a one owner 1995 Ford Thunderbird for $1,200. Just spoke with the elderly lady who is selling it, and she told me she bought it new in 1995. She let her son drive it for awhile, but he now has his own vehicle, and she and her husband also have newer vehicles, and they decided to put it up for sale. Their CL ad is not very descriptive, and they only have two pics of the exterior of the car. It is a faded dark green color, and I "think" the interior is tan. It is hard to tell from the angles of the exterior shots.
They state it just passed smog, and is in good condition. I asked if the AC works and she said no. Luckily the summer heat is winding down, so if I do buy this car, I will have until the beginning of next summer to get the AC fixed.
There is a 1990 Thunderbird SC for $700 in Squaw Valley but the owner states it has several years of DMV fees. I talked to him on the phone and the interior needs work and the previous owner hit something with the left front of the car and you can see the damaged bumper, hood, and driver side fender damaged, but only the bumper looks bad enough to have to be replaced, I think the other two can be repaired. I have the VIN and will go down to the DMV to see how much the fees would be. That is the car I want, but if the fees are too high, then I will settle for the one owner Thunderbird.
Although, I did find a 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4x4 in good shape for $1,500. Only thing wrong with that one is the owner removed the stereo. AC works, 4x4 works, and it has a tow package. It is white and tan with a tan leather interior. I could buy that with this check, and when the SSDI back pay gets here, I can look for a Thunderbird SC in much better shape.
EDIT: Talked to owner of Explorer, and it has not been registered since 2012. So I may end up passing on that. Checked the DMV website, and the Thunderbird SC must not be in the system anymore as It tells me invalid VIN and/or license plate. I will take both down to DMV and see what fees are due. If they are not too expensive I will buy that one.
Decisions, decisions, LOL.
Jim

$2.19 a gallon is not bad. I have seen regular unleaded here as low as $2.69, which is not bad, but of course, I would rather pay $2.19
TGIF Nor Cal FTE. Hope everyone has a good day and even better weekend.
Got some rain late last night. Haven't heard that sound in a long time! Going to look at the '94 Eddie Bauer Explorer today, but I am leaning towards the one owner Thunderbird, so I may not get it. Also want to make a trip to the DMV and see how much the back fees would be on that SC. If it has been unregistered long enough it might be out of the system. Hopefully that means, the fees are gone. If that is the case, I will buy that one.
