It's part of the tire shop and service. But you have to install then they don't.
Or at least not here when I asked.

So I guess you didn't want pickles?

Good luck to you guys while that $15 works through the system. Unless people who have skill levels worth $15 now fill those positions, aka unintended consequences.

Back to subject, I still prefer the old, stinky carbon pile tester that we used to have to truly stress test the battery. Without it, I check SpGr on the cells and will do just before Thanksgiving. Well, if we are still allowed to call it Thanksgiving.

I told the guy extra PICKLES. I got 1 pickle.

BTW in class were instructed on how to take the temp of the battery and the SpGr and then go to the chart.
But with small aircraft you have to use care. If you loose the engine or generator you still have to use a com system
to yell for help or say get off the runway I am landing one way or the other. They frown on stacking planes on top
of each other on the runway. In other words no piggyback rides. Did you know that there are still aircraft flying
that use a carbon-pile voltage regulator system?

Also the way you check how much charge a battery that is a wet cell Nicad has in it? You do a controlled total discharge
and then recharge it. They give so much output and have a very fast taper once discharged. It's looks like a knee
on a graph -------then plunge down. where a lead acid will slope down. It's too bad the charging systems are so different.
Not the funny part is how you do long term storage. Totally dead with shorting clips on each cell. They stay happy that
way for a very long time. But you have to respect that battery a fully charged Nicad will dump all it charge into any
non-insulated conductor so fast that it can melt a box end wrench. But talk about cranking power!!!!

But think about it with the right sized battery set and charging system the FICM would be happy till right before
you ran out of juice to keep the truck running.

Yes I am rambling on.

Thankd for the comment on the rant I needed that chuckle.

Now that Sears and Odyssey have parted company, I've begun recommending the 'X2' branded AGM's that the Batteries Plus chain carries. These are VERY likely rebranded NorthStar units.

http://www.northstarbattery.com/1.0....ES-542-96).pdf

The comment about charge rates is spot on, though. You don't want to hook these dudes up to a properly sized 14.9V regulated alternator unless you want to shorten their life - something to be avoided at $280/pop.

AGM's are commonly rated as 10 year batteries, don't self-discharge with NEAR the rate of wet cells, have higher available capacity in the cold, and are spec'd out to be able to handle over 400 cycles from an 80% depth of discharge. Pretty way sweet.

That's some pretty tasty-looking mac n cheese. German food = awesome.

Battery testing... get a conductance tester and never look back... or should I say, never go to AutoZone and have the moron test them there for you.

Brother in law... considered a smart guy in the family for car stuff. I'm a truck guy, that equates to "doesn't know cars" in my wife's family.

Brings car over because battery light is on. I tested it with a conductance tester, showed a bad battery, he say's... I'll take it to Advance and have them test it, comes back good.

two days later, car dies and won't restart, new battery from BMW @$700 with installation. Was a special battery, labeled with a BMW sticker.
His wife tells my wife.... don't tell Randy, we'll never hear the end of it

That your a dummy, never! I grin when they come over and ask how's the car
That's funny!

Costco used to have their batts in store but moved them in the tire shop.
Rarely do members go in the tires department anyway, maybe once a year. At first I thought they quit selling them when they weren't in the automotive isle anymore.

Completed the winter preps today. Friday was a new steering gear box, Sunday was new front wheel bearings and rebuilt locking hubs.

Time to play in the snow.

I think that this guy is not too worried about his winter prep or driving.

All kidding aside, I did get my EX ready for my winter trip. I put my tow strap under the 2nd row of seats just in case a Chevy or dodge needs assistance.

Or you might find a 2wd EX spinning wheels on a small incline. My truck sits in the driveway in bad weather if not it would probably get stuck in a snowflake.

This was one of the main contributing factors to me buying the 2005 Excursion I have now. My 2001 is a 2wd with an open diff (Thank you Ford, don't know what y'all were thinking.) and the wheels would spin in the slightest bit of anything other than pavement. (mud, sometimes sand).

It had been raining in early 2013 and I pulled over under a bridge on the Hardy Toll road to pick something up that fell. I pick it up, put the truck in gear to get back on the road, step on the gas, and the right rear wheel spins.....That was the breaking point that brought me to newer truck time.
