I run the pioneer AVH-X8500bhs.
You wont need an amp with this stereo im running my stock door speakers, and the sound is amazing. The best part there is no haking the dashboard.
This is what I have.
What do you mean by "no apple"? So you want a unit that does NOT work with Apple phones/ipods? I don't think they're made.
Also, mechless? It's not really a reliability issue if you never use it... plus you can hook it up to a screen in the back and watch DVDs while tailgating (or passengers can).
/edit apparently I'm wrong and they do make Android head units. Who knew?
I don't know about an Ex, but you could just get one from walmart and cut the plug off of the radio and wire in this pigtail. Ford Harness | Radio Wiring Diagram | 2003-Up | FD23B | by Scosche This is what I did. When I ordered my radio, those harnesses on the joying website didn't exist.
Sorry guys. life got in the way and I lost track of this project.
I did finally stuff this thing into my dash. Really diggin it. Looks cool, works great everyone that sees it wants to know where I got it. Did it quick & dirty as I'm slowly modding an f-something50 bezel for gauges & switches, which will get an better cut and finish.
Still need to install my rear view cameras and get sygic set up.
Where is everyone putting the gps antenna? up through the a-pillar and behind the headliner? seems the obvious route but I'm always open to better ideas.

Mine's on top of the defroster ductwork under the dash. Works fine and no routing.

I put mine here. That panel pops up to reveal a dash bolt, and if the deck is out it is very easy to grab the wire and pull it through. Using the 2-sided tape that came with the gps antenna. Been there for 6 months and looks like it was always there.
callforfire - any update on your backup camera locations/install? I am looking for a dual camera setup also and you appear way more skilled in figuring this out than me!

Not as of yet I'm sad to say. I did see a pic of one (May have been around here somewhere) mounted just below the 3rd brake light. That looks like the ideal spot to see downward & directly behind where I'm totally blind. I'd like the second one to view straight back but the ideal spot is right smack in between the barn doors. I've got a couple ideas on how to do it without drilling into anything.
I've got some time next week so hopefully I'll have a chance to fab up some mounting brackets.

I have seen quite a few that just attach as a license plate frame? Or in that area I figure that would work well. I have not pulled the trigger yet on this head unit, I am kinda in a holding pattern as I would really like a dual zone unit, I spoke with Joying a few months ago and they said they in the development stage or upgrading the software (android) to be able to make their head units dual zone, so that pretty sweet.
I am finding out there is enough to do on my truck in other areas so no biggie, would really like to get one in place though!

Hardwired mine onto lisc. plate frame, works awesome! So nice for hooking up trailer!
Generic ebay camera, hardwired. I added some double wall heatshrink to the wire coming out of the camera itself, just for some added abrasion protection. I just searched for the one I could find with the lowest operating temperature for Canadian winters and put it in. Activates by wiring its positive lead to a backup light.
I have a 2002 Excursion and I would like to add one of these to it. What had to be done to fit it in the dash? It is my understanding ours isn't quite din 2 and may need some work to get it to fit in.
Okay guys...dumb question of the day. Looking at the units on post #55, I see that they have a surround around the front of the units with an "ear" on each side towards the bottom. I just can't get my head around how that will fit in the Ex dash. can only assume that it is removed for our application. Does the dash have to be removed for installation or do these slide in from the front like our factory radios?
