Unhappy Harness connection at firewall....

On my '87, there is a wire, possibly two that are chaffed and they're right at the connector leading into the firewall under the hood. For the time being, I coated it in Dielectric grease and there is another connector on the same harness I believe that every wire had the insulation stripped back 1/8". How can I get the firewall connector apart to repair it? Also, Where are all the ground points on this truck? I imagine after almost 30 years they're pretty bad. Its the red wire that's looped and the connector on the far left. Top is cracked.

Oh no that looks bad. Do you have any experience with a Code 92?

Grounds are easy to find, anywhere wires terminate on a body panel, block, firewall or frame. Yes, they really need cleaning up by now. First disconnect the negative terminal at the battery before disconnecting anything else.

Replace the battery and starter cables, and ground straps. Look carefully underneath and at back of engine for cables or straps connecting frame to engine block, and engine block to firewall.

Grind connection points and grounds on engine block, frame etc to bright shiny metal and coat with grease or NO-OX. Tighten securely. Use star washers on firewall, block, etc.

I found the engine ground on the back of the driver side head and ran it directly to battery ground instead of the factory location. I also joined it to another ground. Truck has no batteries currently due to battery fire with PO so I'm going through the electrical system. He thought he was some kind of electrician and really wasn't. I have no idea what a code 92 is. My '87 is mechanical injection and my '89 is stored in a garage securely and hasn't ran in over 3 years. Really want to get that connector fixed. and hopefully that wire is repairable.

I have a Code 92 for shift solenoid #2 circuit. I am trying to find what is causing it. I have a 90 F150 w 5.8 e4od tranny. 4x2 and my tranny is stuck in limp mode making shifts suck.

Right in the middle of the connector is a 10MM bolt(possable 3/8?), just back out that bolt(captured bolt so it wont come out) and the connector will come apart.

The inside connector is snapped in place from the inside cab firewall. Some times it will pop out when putting it back together.

When you put it back together, use a good amount of dielectric grease and do not force that connector together with tightening that bolt, you could bend the pins and that is a PITA to fix.

Got the bolt out and both half's apart. The worst wire was red/yellow stripe and had to be cut and re soldered together it was so bad. But a bottle of liquid tape took care of all the other damage. Now, I can't get enough voltage to the truck to do ANYTHING. Turn the key, All I get is door chimer, battery light, and maybe the stereo. I tried all different locations with the same results. There is so much crud on this truck it is almost impossible to find them. As far as the other connector goes, I think cut and replace is the best option. What is it called so I know what to order? I put my battery charger on it with no batteries, Put it to 40 amp and the sumbitch almost caught fire! I'm beginning to think my voltage regulator is shot. Anyone know where all the actual ground points are?
